First Officer - Aviation Job Description

Role Summary

The First Officer serves as the pivotal second-in-command, meticulously assisting the Captain in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the aircraft. This role demands unwavering integrity, exceptional leadership, and profound professionalism, with shared responsibility for the well-being of crew, passengers, cargo, and equipment. The First Officer is instrumental in upholding the highest operational standards, demonstrating ethical conduct and decisive decision-making during both routine and contingency flight operations, always under the ultimate authority of the Captain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence & Compliance: Collaborates closely with the Captain to ensure the aircraft's safe, efficient, and compliant operation, strictly adhering to UAE GCAA, international aviation regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Flight Duty Execution: Executes all delegated flight duties with exceptional precision and professionalism, diligently following flydubai's Operations Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Proactively proposes alternative actions, guided by sound Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles, to optimize flight safety and efficiency.
  • System Monitoring & Reporting: Continuously monitors aircraft systems, performance, and navigation, promptly addressing any irregularities. Accurately identifies, documents, and reports safety incidents, SOP breaches, or operational discrepancies through established channels, actively contributing to continuous improvement in safety and efficiency.
  • Pre-Flight to Post-Flight Oversight: Conducts comprehensive pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks, ensuring the serviceability of critical emergency systems and flight deck equipment. Shares responsibility for the aircraft, passengers, crew, and ground operations from boarding to engine shutdown, including overseeing fueling and loading activities, and immediately alerts the Captain to any irregularities.
  • Crew Resource Management: Actively fosters a professional and collaborative environment within the flight crew, exemplifying effective leadership and Crew Resource Management (CRM) to uphold flydubai’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence. Supports the Captain in managing crew responsibilities from duty reporting to post-flight release, both at the base and during layovers.
  • Brand Representation: Serves as a distinguished brand ambassador, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and appearance while on duty and in public. Supports the Captain in ensuring the entire crew consistently upholds the corporate and brand image, reporting any inconsistencies through appropriate mechanisms.
  • Regulatory & Industry Awareness: Remains meticulously informed about the latest UAE GCAA and international aviation legislation, operational standards, and industry best practices. Proactively integrates this knowledge to ensure full legal compliance, adherence to procedures, and alignment with evolving industry trends.
  • Commercial Alignment: Operates all flight duties in harmonious alignment with flydubai’s commercial objectives, skillfully balancing operational efficiency with an unwavering commitment to safety and strict compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Possession of an unrestricted Class 1 Pilot Medical Certificate issued by an ICAO Compliant State.
  • Holds an ICAO Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
  • Minimum 2,500 hours of total flying time.
  • Minimum 1,000 hours on modern (EFIS), multi-crew, multi-engine aircraft with an operating weight exceeding 10 tons (Pilot-in-Command time is preferable).
  • Minimum 1,500 hours Multi-Pilot Aircraft (MPA) flying time.
  • Achieved ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or higher.

Information Security Requirements (ISR)

The First Officer is required to read and comply with the Company's Information Security Requirements (ISR) policies, diligently reporting any weaknesses or incidents to the relevant Line Manager or Information Security team. This includes completing all mandated ISR awareness sessions and strictly adhering to associated guidelines in all daily operational activities.
