Role Overview:

The part-time Flight Operations Support (FOS) role serves as a subject matter expert, providing essential support to key projects and initiatives within Flight Training & Standards and Delta Professional Services (DPS). This position operates on an as-needed basis for assigned areas and reports to the DPS Manager of Delta Flight Training Operations. Individuals in this role should possess a foundational understanding of FAA Part 121 air carrier operations and demonstrate moderate to expert knowledge in specific areas of focus.

Duty Pilots are integral to the Line Operations department of Flight Operations, stationed primarily within the Operations and Customer Center (OCC) or the Atlanta Airport Customer Center (ACC). The Duty Pilot desk ensures continuous coverage, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year across three daily shifts. Duty Pilots are typically scheduled to work approximately 10-14 shifts per month. All Duty Pilot positions are based at Delta's General Offices or the ACC in Atlanta, GA.

Shift Hours:

  • Day: 0600 - 1430
  • Evening: 1430 - 2300
  • Night: 2300 - 0600

Key Responsibilities:

The Duty Pilot performs critical functions vital to daily flight operations and pilot support, including but not limited to:

  • Serving as the primary day-to-day contact for pilots regarding operational concerns.
  • Providing support to flight crews during safety-related events, flights requiring extensive MCC (Maintenance Control Center) input, or situations necessitating conflict resolution.
  • Facilitating cross-divisional coordination within the OCC/ACC to address operational challenges.
  • Connecting pilots with the Chief Pilot's Office (CPO) and other internal departments to resolve issues.
  • Monitoring communication channels proactively to identify and mitigate potential operational impacts.
  • Analyzing flight schedules and coordinating with Airport Customer Service (ACS) to identify modifications affecting operations.
  • Monitoring and assisting with compliance requirements, including DOT 3/4 hour regulations.
  • Assessing pushback delays for accuracy and identifying underlying trends.

Qualifications and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security for themselves, others, and sensitive data.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work effectively with diverse individuals, perspectives, and working styles.
  • Mandatory Requirement: Must have prior experience as a Delta Air Lines pilot.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid organizational and leadership capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Flight Operations infrastructure and processes.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office 365 and other Delta/DPS specific software.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while working efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (beyond basic requirement).

  • Knowledge of database management systems (DBMS).
  • Experience with Operational Support Systems (OSS).
