Position Summary
CAE is seeking highly qualified and motivated Rotary Wing Instructor Pilots to provide essential flight training for new student pilots. This critical role supports the United States Air Force Air Education and Training Command's Introductory Flight Training – Rotary (IFT-R) program. Instructor Pilots will play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of military aviators at the CAE Dothan Training Center.
Key Responsibilities
The Rotary Wing Instructor Pilot will be entrusted with the following essential duties:
- Conducting comprehensive contact flight training and instrument familiarization for USAF IFT-R students.
- Collaborating with the CAE IFT-R Chief Pilot, Director of Quality Assurance, Standardization, and the USAF to ensure full compliance with program standardization and training protocols.
- Ensuring strict compliance with all applicable standards, including USAF and Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR).
- Actively participating in the Quality Management System, adhering to quality procedures, and contributing to safety programs.
- Staying current with all changes and modifications to external aviation standards and regulations.
- Contributing to the identification and implementation of strategies to maintain and enhance compliance across the program.
- Managing the standardization, evaluation, and examiner plan, which includes scheduling internal and external audits, maintaining tracking databases, addressing deficiencies, and generating reports.
- Coordinating examiner activities throughout the program to ensure adequate support and oversight.
- Interfacing proactively with program members, customers, and CAE USA staff to identify and resolve quality assurance issues, ensuring all requirements are consistently met.
- Engaging with various departments, management, and staff to identify and implement process improvement opportunities.
- Conducting all business activities in strict adherence to corporate policies, procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations.
- Presenting performance metrics to assess process effectiveness and the impact of process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- FAA-certified Commercial Pilot, Helicopter with an Instrument Helicopter rating.
- FAA Certificated Flight Instructor Helicopter (CFI-H) with an Instrument Helicopter Instructor rating (current).
- A minimum of 1,000 hours total flight time, creditable as pilot-in-command or second in command (per FAR 61.51) or Pilot in Command (PC) / Pilot (PI) (Per AR 95-1) in aircraft of any weight or category. This must include:
- 500 hours of turbine helicopter time.
- 100 hours of hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time.
- 75 hours of night flying time.
- A minimum of 500 hours of Flight Instructor time as a Helicopter Instructor Pilot, with experience in primary flight training within a military initial flight training course or FAA 14CFR Part 61 and/or Part 141 environments.
- Demonstrated experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
- Possession and maintenance of a current FAA Class 2 medical certificate.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime, any shift, or any day of the week as required to meet program needs.
- Highly motivated and self-directed with a strong commitment to student success.
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory due to U.S. Government contract requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- An Associate of Science degree.
- Graduate of a US DoD formal Rotary Wing Instructor Pilot training program.
- Prior experience as a U.S. Air Force Helicopter Instructor Pilot.
- Total flight time of 2,500 hours, including:
- 1,000 hours as a helicopter instructor (any weight, category).
- 1,500 hours of helicopter turbine time.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This role primarily operates within a professional classroom and office setting at the CAE Dothan Training Center, with occasional exposure to extreme summer and winter temperatures during outdoor duties. Routine tasks involve standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing systems. The physical demands described are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds overhead.
- Ability to walk and/or climb stairs and ladders to access simulator or aircraft cockpits.
- Ability to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under equipment.
- Ability to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, or other sounds indicative of problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and their surrounding environment.
Security Clearance & Compliance
The incumbent must adhere strictly to all company security, data protection, and usage policies and procedures. Personal responsibility for the proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form, is required. Information shall not be divulged or access afforded to employees without a need-to-know, nor divulged outside the company without management approval. All government and proprietary information must be accessed and stored electronically on company-provided resources. The incumbent must also be eligible for a DoD Personal Security Clearance.
