AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot
Aviation professionals are invited to apply for the position of AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot. The Instructor Pilot provides advanced AH-64D/E flight instruction to student pilots, adhering to the Army Aircrew Training Manual. This role demands IP experience at the company level or higher. Training is conducted both during day and night, with shifts potentially starting as early as 5:00 AM and concluding after midnight. Instruction takes place at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and includes both U.S. Army and multinational students.
The curriculum encompasses advanced flight tasks, navigation, terrain flight techniques, tactics, techniques, procedures, and instrument training. Flight instruction includes contact, instrument, and weapons gunnery; also night systems under day, night, and night vision goggle modes of flight.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs students and provides performance evaluations in classroom, flight, and simulator environments.
- Conducts pre-flight and in-flight briefings, and post-flight After Action Reviews.
- Administers end-of-stage check rides.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High School Graduate is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is desired.
- Graduate of the U.S. Army AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot and Methods of Instruction course is mandatory.
- Minimum of five years of experience as an aviator is required, with the most recent AH-64D/E flight within the past 12 months. Currency or refresher training will be provided as needed.
- A minimum of 1000 hours as pilot in the AH-64D/E is required.
- A minimum of 250 hours as Instructor Pilot in the AH-64D/E is required.
- The candidate must possess fundamental computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, database input, accessing electronic publications and the internet, using briefing and debriefing software, and completing electronic forms and grade sheets.
- Ability to support periodic travel is required.
- Familiarity with the operation of a military flight training base is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) second-class Medical Certificate throughout the duration of the contract or, if a member of the National Guard or Reserves, an Army Class 2 Flight Duty Medical Exam (FDME).
Language Skills:
- Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex aviation-related documents and technical diagrams.
Mathematical Skills:
- Must be capable of calculating figures, amounts, and percentages, and creating and interpreting graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret student needs and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is essential.
Security Responsibilities:
- Compliance with all company security and data protection/usage policies and procedures is mandatory. The candidate is personally responsible for the proper marking and handling of all information and materials in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company-provided resources.
- Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment:
- The role involves working in a standard office environment, communicating via personal computer, telephone, and fax.
- The work environment includes areas with a risk of electrical shock from moving mechanical parts driven by hydraulics under high pressure.
- At times, the candidate will be exposed to extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises consistent with an aviation facility, including flight line operations.
Physical Demands:
- Domestic travel as required.
- Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladders into a simulator or aircraft cockpit.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under training devices.
- Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the surrounding environment.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
