Avelo Airlines is expanding its dedicated team and seeking energetic, highly motivated aviation professionals to join a committed group of safety and service experts. This unique full-time opportunity is for a specialized charter program supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), involving both domestic and international flight operations. Flight Attendants will play a crucial role in facilitating DHS's mission-critical efforts.

Position Summary

The Flight Attendant for the DHS charter program is a frontline safety and service professional responsible for ensuring the highest standards of security, welfare, and comfort for all customers and crewmembers. This role demands a proactive approach to safety, exceptional customer engagement, and a diligent adherence to all aviation regulations. The position requires adaptability to a dynamic reserve schedule and a commitment to seamless flight operations supporting vital domestic and international missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety and Emergency Response: Ensures the safety, security, welfare, and comfort of all customers and fellow crewmembers. Responds safely and effectively to a broad range of in-flight emergencies, contributing to the smooth and efficient operations of all aircraft and flight schedules. Completes and submits timely incident and safety reporting documentation.
  • In-Flight Standards and Customer Experience: Cultivates a caring customer experience on every flight, from boarding through deplaning. Serves as the primary point of contact for onboard customer issues, demonstrating resourcefulness in finding creative resolutions. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of and rigorously adheres to Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and procedures in every operational location.
  • Operational Compliance and Professional Development: Attends and successfully completes all required training, maintaining qualifications as determined by Inflight Leadership. Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of all relevant Company materials, including the Inflight Service Manual, Flight Attendant Playbook, and OneCrew Way Handbook, ensuring currency with revisions and bulletins. Keeps the Flight Attendant tablet updated and current.
  • Crew Collaboration and Leadership: Embodies Avelo’s "One Crew" value by cooperating and working effectively with all operational crewmembers and Avelo leadership. Treats each customer with kindness and respect, fostering a positive and professional environment onboard.

Qualifications and Requirements

Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to reside near their assigned base due to the nature of the DHS charter service, which may consist of local day trips and/or overnights. The ability to report to the airport within two hours of notification is mandatory. This schedule will comprise exclusively of reserve shifts.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • Possess reliable transportation and the ability to report to the assigned location within two hours.
  • Attend and successfully complete all Avelo Flight Attendant training requirements.
  • Ability to accept and relocate to a base assignment at the crewmember’s own expense after training.
  • Capable of working a rotating schedule with variable hours, including duty days of up to 16 hours, nighttime or overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and multiple consecutive days away from home.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance and demeanor, strictly adhering to prescribed Inflight uniform and appearance guidelines.
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Avelo Airlines’ regulations regarding drug and alcohol compliance for safety-sensitive transportation employees.
  • Willingness and ability to serve all types of food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages.
  • Maintain a current working telephone number for contact and ensure the company has an up-to-date address of residence on file at all times.
  • Hold a valid United States passport (or foreign passport with applicable VISAs) prior to application, with at least six months of validity remaining prior to expiration. Must possess the unrestricted right to travel freely in and out of the United States, to and from all cities served by Avelo Airlines, including Canada.
  • Demonstrate fluent understanding, speaking, reading, and writing of the English language.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities outlined in the Avelo Inflight Services Manual, Flight Attendant Playbook, Company safety manuals, and all duties as assigned by the Flight Captain or Avelo leadership.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements

  • Vision corrected to at least 20/40 with glasses or contact lenses.
  • Ability to physically lift 50 pounds from the ground to waist level.
  • Capable of walking forward down the aircraft aisle without interfering with the comfort of seated customers.
  • Ability to be seated in a jumpseat with all belts and restraints fastened without the use of a seatbelt extension.
  • Maintain balance while walking and standing during flight, and be able to stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, and crouch for long periods of time.
  • Capability to push or pull aircraft doors/exits, or food/beverage carts with a force of up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to assist customers needing assistance during an evacuation.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting Hourly Rate: $28 per hour for the first year.
  • Guaranteed Hours: A minimum of 75 hours per month.
  • Lead Pay: An additional $2.00 override per hour when flying in the lead position.
  • Per Diem: $2.25 per hour when on duty at the airport or during flight operations.
  • Additional Compensation: Premium pay and Holiday pay for Company-identified holidays, as applicable.
