The Role: Pilot Crew Scheduling
The Pilot Crew Scheduler is an integral part of the Crew Scheduling Team within the Integrated Operations Division. This critical position ensures the efficient and compliant scheduling of pilots for all American Airlines flights. The scheduler is responsible for maintaining complete flight crew staffing in strict adherence to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR 117 Limitations), pilot union contractual guidelines, and company policies.
Key responsibilities include managing pilot staffing levels and collaborating with the Supervisor to address daily operational requirements. The role involves strategically allocating resources to cover unforeseen operational needs, such as those arising from weather disruptions, irregular operations, charters, or equipment changes, ensuring the most expeditious and cost-effective solutions are implemented. This function directly supports American Airlines' commitment to providing safe, reliable, and courteous service to its customers and crewmembers.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintain pilot schedules and assignments in compliance with Company Standard Operating Procedures, Federal Aviation Regulations, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Generate, monitor, and interpret various message reports pertaining to pilot schedules.
- Communicate schedule changes effectively to pilots.
- Utilize diverse electronic communication methods to collaborate with team members across various operational functions.
- Employ multiple software programs, including FOS, SPP, Microsoft Office Suite, and web browsers, for monitoring and modifying pilot schedules.
- Provide excellent and timely customer service to pilots.
- Complete all required online and classroom training to remain current with operational procedures and regulations.
- Work all shifts, including holidays and weekends, within a 24/7 operational environment.
- Work overtime as required, potentially with short notice.
- Assist with on-the-job training for new hires as needed.
- Commit to a one-year tenure within the Crew Scheduling department.
Qualifications for Success
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Demonstrated customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a related field.
- 1-2 years of experience within the airline industry.
- Experience in operations and familiarity with the SABRE/DECS system.
Required Skills, Licenses & Certifications:
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and union groups.
- Strict adherence to the American Airlines Attendance Policy.
- Capacity to work effectively in a highly stressful environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.
