About the Role
This pivotal role is an integral part of the Crew Scheduling Team within the Integrated Operations Division. The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the daily operational requirements for pilots, encompassing shift staffing, the precise scheduling, rescheduling, and reassignment of crew members, and ensuring optimal crew manning across all bases.
Key Responsibilities
The Supervisor, Crew Scheduling Pilots will undertake critical responsibilities, including:
- Coordinating the coverage of open sequences for each crew base, adhering strictly to AA/APA contractual labor agreements and FAR 117 Limitations.
- Assisting the Manager on Duty with daily operational requirements, strategically allocating open time due to irregular operations (e.g., weather, charters, equipment substitutions) to ensure expeditious and cost-efficient coverage.
- Supervising, leading, and guiding a team of Crew Schedulers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in process and internal customer experience.
- Managing talent development, performance, and recruiting for the team, including coaching and counseling to enhance employee performance.
- Assisting the Senior Manager with special assignments and representing the pilot crew scheduling department in crew system development meetings to provide IT direction.
- Playing a key role in the implementation and automation of the pilot Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA).
- Leading comprehensive research for grievance and pay claims and coordinating the integration of pilot crew scheduling teams.
- Contributing to the development and revision of contractual materials and presentations, and providing updated coverage reports.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of job-related experience.
Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience
- Two (2) years of dedicated Crew Scheduling experience.
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Operational Acumen: Proven ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure in a highly demanding, fast-paced 24/7/365 operational environment, including manual operations during system outages. Strong understanding of the 24-hour clock and global time zones.
- Contractual & Regulatory Expertise: In-depth knowledge of AA/APA contractual labor agreements and FAR 117 Limitations. Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex pilot labor agreements.
- Leadership & Supervision: Demonstrated capability to lead, guide, motivate, and coordinate the daily duties of direct reports. Experience with talent development, performance management, coaching, and counseling.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations. Proven ability to communicate effectively with crew members, Flight Department, Labor Relations, APA, and all levels of management. Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with union groups and senior management.
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability: High degree of flexibility and adaptability to constant change. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently under strict deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills to ensure expeditious and cost-efficient operational coverage.
- Technical Proficiency: Aptitude for learning and applying computer applications relevant to crew scheduling systems.
- Reliability: Consistent ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis, including working all shifts (days, nights, holidays, weekends) and overtime as required, often with minimal notice. Strict adherence to the American Airlines Attendance policy.
