Position Overview

Amentum is currently accepting applications for the highly specialized position of Helicopter Pilot Instructor, located at the premier aviation education center in Fort Rucker, Alabama. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive flight instruction and mentorship to student pilots utilizing the UH-72 Lakota platform.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to join a world-class organization dedicated to fostering the next generation of military aviators. Notably, prior qualification on the UH-72 aircraft or specific military aviation experience is not a prerequisite for selection.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Amentum instructors are expected to teach, coach, and mentor student pilots through intensive training designed to prepare them for their critical roles as military aviators. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality classroom academic instruction covering essential aviation knowledge.
  • Conducting hands-on rotary wing flight training with paramount emphasis on safety.
  • Operating flight instruction within an extensive area encompassing more than 40,000 square miles within the National Airspace System.
  • Upholding the company’s unprecedented safety record, which includes over 2.5 million hours of documented flight instruction.

Minimum Pilot Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum flight hour and certification requirements:

  • Certifications: Must possess an ICAO equivalent or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA Flight Instructor Certificate. Both certificates must carry the Rotorcraft Category, Helicopter Class, and Instrument Helicopter ratings. Alternatively, applicants may qualify if they are a graduate of any Department of Defense (DOD) rotary wing instructor pilot course.
  • Total Flight Time: A minimum of 1,500 hours is required. Flight time logged as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) or Second-in-Command (SIC) (per FAR 61.51) or as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Pilot (PI) (Per AR 95-1) in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable toward this requirement.
  • Instrument Time: Must certify having a combined minimum of 100 hours of hooded instrument time, flight simulator instrument time, or actual weather pilot time.
  • Instrument Instruction: Documented experience instructing students in instrument flight training is mandatory.
  • Night Flying: A minimum of 75 hours of night flying time.
  • Instructor Time: A minimum of 500 hours of documented instructor time.
  • Medical Certification: Must possess a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to commencing training.
  • Basic Warfighter Skills Applicants: Candidates applying under the Basic Warfighter Skills track must be certified Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and possess a minimum of 200 hours of NVG flight time.
  • Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be able to provide verifiable proof of such authorization.
