Role Summary: Ensuring Safety and Service Excellence
The First Officer serves as the Second in Command, entrusted with the profound responsibility of ensuring a safe and smooth journey for all passengers, mail, and freight. Key Responsibilities of a First Officer
- Acts as Second in Command, executing flights for the transport of passengers, mail, freight, or other commercial objectives.
- Rigorously complies with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company Flight Procedures, and Company Policies on scheduled flights and routes to guarantee flight safety.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and conduct at all times, reflecting the airline's commitment to excellence.
- Operates Company aircraft in strict accordance with established Qualification Standards and all Flight Manual operating procedures and policies.
- Facilitates clear and effective communication with all necessary agencies and personnel, adhering to Company Communication Practices.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge commensurate with the holder of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, encompassing all aspects of applicable FARs and the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM).
Qualifications: Experience, Education & Skills
Required Qualifications (Common to both Alaska and Hawaiian Seniority Lists):
- Minimum of 1,500 hours of total documented flight time.
- A current First Class FAA Medical Certificate.
- Minimum of 500 hours of fixed-wing turbine time (airplane and powered lift combined).
- Must possess and/or obtain a current passport with unlimited access in and out of the United States, maintaining at least six months of validity at the time of employment. Additional travel documentation may be required for non-U.S. passport holders.
- Ability to travel immediately and repeatedly to any domestic or international location served by Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License issued by a U.S. state or U.S. territory.
- Minimum 23 years of age.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated excellent judgment, leadership capabilities, commandability, and maturity.
- Professional demeanor and appearance.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making under various operational conditions.
- Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure.
Specific Requirements:
- For Alaska Airlines Seniority List:
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument-Airplane rating.
- Fulfillment of all aeronautical experience requirements for an ATP, Airplane category rating, as stipulated in 14 CFR §61.159.
- Completion of the current ATP written exam.
- Comfortable with potential domiciles in: Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; San Francisco, CA.
- For Hawaiian Airlines Seniority List:
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certified, Airplane Multiengine Land with English proficient endorsement required.
- Comfortable with potential domiciles in: Seattle, WA; Honolulu, HI; Cincinnati, OH.
Preferred Qualifications (Common to both Alaska and Hawaiian Seniority Lists):
- Four-year degree from an accredited university.
- 500 hours of multi-engine airplane time.
- Minimum of 50 hours of flight time within the last 12 months.
- 500 hours of turbine Pilot in Command (PIC) time.
- Extensive turbojet/turboprop experience in a complex flying environment.
- For Alaska Airlines Seniority List, an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate is highly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits (Total Rewards)
Note: Pay and benefits may vary by company, location, number of regularly scheduled hours worked, length of employment, and employment status. This role's compensation is governed by a collective bargaining agreement.
First Officer Salary Details:
- Alaska Seniority List:
- First-year pay rate: $124.72 per hour (per contract).
- Monthly pay guarantee: 70 hours.
- Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 84 hours (short call).
- Hawaiian Seniority List:
- First-year pay rate: $87.00 per hour (per contract).
- Monthly pay guarantee: 75 hours.
- Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 75 hours (short call).
