The Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, a vital component of AAR and headquartered in Rockledge, FL, provides comprehensive, world-class expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing on a global scale.
Role Overview
AAR is actively seeking a highly skilled and profoundly dedicated Fixed Wing Instructor Pilot (IP) and Command Pilot to join its esteemed Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program. This is a full-time, Home of Record (HOR) based, globally deployable position with a primary focus on operating and instructing on the DHC-8 aircraft platform. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the pinnacle of flight crew readiness and operational excellence for essential US Department of State missions.
Key Responsibilities
The Instructor Pilot - Command Pilot will be entrusted with a comprehensive range of duties, which include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serving with distinction as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and, as required, as Second-in-Command (SIC) on DHC-8 aircraft during operational missions across diverse global theaters.
- Conducting rigorous academic and hands-on flight instruction, thorough evaluations, and recurrent proficiency reviews for flight crew members, encompassing aircraft transition training and annual assessments.
- Meticulously maintaining accurate and comprehensive crewmember records, including Instructor Aircrew Training Folders (IATFs), Aviation Training Information System (AWIS) entries, official flight records, weight and balance documentation, and critical risk assessments.
- Ensuring strict and unwavering compliance with all Standardization Directives, Aircrew Training Manuals (ATMs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Aircrew Training Program (ATP) requirements.
- Developing and implementing bespoke training programs meticulously tailored to support specific organizational missions and evolving operational needs.
- Proactively monitoring and evaluating crewmember performance during mission planning and flight operations to uphold impeccable standardization and strict adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Maintaining continuous operational currency and professional proficiency in DHC-8 aircraft operations, in strict accordance with government and US Department of State International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (DoS INLA) guidance.
- Staying fully current on all additions and modifications to applicable aviation procedures, regulations, and official documentation.
- Routinely deploying Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) and occasionally Within the Continental United States (CONUS) to provide essential support for worldwide operations. Candidates should anticipate 180 days or more of Temporary Duty (TDY) annually, often to remote and/or austere environments.
- Delegating functions judiciously as appropriate while consistently retaining ultimate overall responsibility for flight operations and the integrity of training programs.
- Adhering to the highest professional standards, including ensuring adequate rest cycles and maintaining an impeccable professional appearance.
- Performing other aviation-related duties as assigned to effectively support program objectives and operational success.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 1,500 total fixed-wing flight hours, with at least 500 hours accrued in turbine engine aircraft.
- Possession of a current FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate (Airplane, Multi-Engine Land).
- Possession of current FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) ratings, or a verified military equivalent.
- A valid FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- A current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- An existing DHC-8 type rating, or the proven ability to obtain a DHC-8 type rating and successfully complete DHC-8 Readiness Level (RL) training within 90 days of integration into the program.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for 180 days or more annually; deployment schedules may fluctuate monthly.
- A minimum of 300 hours of documented instructor pilot or check pilot time.
- The capability to obtain and meticulously maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
- Spanish language proficiency at Level L-2, R-2, is a mandatory requirement for assignments within LATAM (Latin America) Programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Documented Functional Check Pilot (FCP) / Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) training.
- Possession of an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
- Prior experience as a military standardization pilot or a civilian equivalent, particularly with the DoS INLA program.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in an aviation-related field or demonstrably equivalent experience.
- Possession of an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Security Clearance.
