Fixed Wing Pilot in Command Worldwide (18175)

AAR’s Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, headquartered in Rockledge, FL, is seeking a full-time, deployable Fixed Wing Pilot in Command (PIC). This role provides essential expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the U.S. Department of State Air Wing.

Role Overview

The Pilot in Command serves as a DHC-8 operator and, when required, as Second in Command. This position is a worldwide deployable role based from the candidate's Home of Record (HOR). The pilot is responsible for all aspects of flight planning, safety, and regulatory compliance while maintaining aircraft currency and proficiency per government and DoS INLA guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy routinely OCONUS and occasionally CONUS, with an anticipation of 180 days or more of TDY annually, often in remote or austere environments.
  • Supervise flight planning, including consideration of weather, terrain, performance, weight and balance, and navigation requirements.
  • Verify aircraft airworthiness, maintenance status, and adherence to the MEL.
  • Conduct preflight inspections and oversee the loading, distribution, and security of passengers, baggage, and cargo.
  • Maintain final responsibility for flight documentation, including flight logs, manifests, and the filing of flight plans.
  • Ensure safety and ramp security during passenger operations and uphold professional pilot standards at all times.
  • Oversee reporting of maintenance discrepancies and delegate tasks while retaining overall command authority.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1,500 total fixed-wing flight hours, including 500 hours of turbine engine time.
  • Minimum 300 hours of multi-engine pilot-in-command (PIC) time.
  • FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate (Airplane, MEL).
  • DHC-8 type rating.
  • FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
  • Previous military fixed-wing flight training qualification or civilian equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Completion of DHC-8 Readiness Level (RL) training within 90 days of integration.
  • Spanish Level L-2, R-2 proficiency required for LATAM programs.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for 180+ days annually.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • FAA CFI-CFII-MEI.
  • Documented Functional Check Pilot (FCP) / Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) training with Maintenance Evaluator designation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Active U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
  • Prior military pilot experience or pilot support on the DoS INLA program.
