Job Summary

Bighorn Airways, Inc. is seeking qualified pilots to join our flight operations team as a First Officer. Successful candidates will fly CASA 212 or DHC-8 aircraft under contract for the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Operations are conducted throughout the Rocky Mountain regions of the contiguous United States and Alaska.

Key Responsibilities

This role involves operating large aircraft at slow airspeeds in challenging mountainous terrain and unfavorable weather conditions. Primary mission profiles include the deployment of smokejumpers to remote locations and low-level para-cargo drops. Personnel are required to maintain a positive attitude, exhibit strong customer service skills, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with team members in close quarters for extended periods.

Operational Requirements

The contract duration spans 90-120 days, occurring between April and September, with potential extensions of 30 or more days. The established duty cycle consists of 12 days on duty followed by two days off for the duration of the contract.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating and Airplane Multi-Engine Land (AMEL) rating.
  • 1,200 hours total flight time.
  • 250 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in airplanes.
  • Strong background in low-level flight operations is required; agricultural aviation experience is preferred.
