Airline First Officer (Second in Command)

Role Overview and Key Responsibilities

The First Officer (Second in Command) is a highly critical role responsible for executing scheduled Part 121 flight operations. This position requires steadfast adherence to regulatory mandates and established company procedures, contributing directly to the safe transport of passengers, mail, freight, or specialized commercial cargo.

Operational Duties

  • Acts as the Second in Command, supporting the Pilot in Command in all phases of flight for the transport of passengers, mail, freight, or other commercial assignments.
  • Assumes responsibility for the comprehensive management and professional conduct of the assigned flight segment. This includes diligent pre-flight activities, such as reviewing all required documentation, operational restrictions, and flight plans.
  • Ensures the safe execution of the flight while airborne, utilizing sound aeronautical decision-making.
  • Completes all required post-flight duties, documentation, and reporting accurately and promptly.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures absolute and continuous compliance with all relevant Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs/FAA), established Company Flight Procedures, and internal corporate policies across all scheduled routes and flights, placing safety as the paramount priority.

Mandatory Qualifications and Flight Time Requirements

Candidates must possess the experience and certification necessary to serve as a First Officer in high-tempo Part 121 air carrier operations. Specific flight time criteria, as mandated by FAR ยง 121.436(a)(3), must be demonstrably met via one of the following criteria:

Prior Qualifying Time (PQT) as PIC
Possession of a minimum of 200 hours of FAA-approved Prior Qualifying Time (PQT) accumulated while serving as Pilot in Command (PIC) in applicable flight operations.
Experience as SIC at a Part 121 Carrier
Documentation of a minimum of 200 hours accumulated while serving as Second in Command (SIC) at a certified Part 121 air carrier.

Verification Protocol

Successful candidates must furnish verifiable proof of all required flight hours. All prior qualifying time is subject to mandatory verification within official pilot logbooks, conducted by the System Chief Pilot and/or the Director of Operations during the formal interview process.
