As a Flight Attendant, individuals become integral members of a team that supports over 28,000 active flight attendants within the world's largest airline, known for its expansive and rapidly growing network. Key Responsibilities and Proficiencies:
The Inflight Crew Member is expected to uphold the highest standards of safety and customer service, demonstrating the following proficiencies:

The ability to fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from base for multiple days is essential. Dependability and timeliness are critical for maintaining the operational schedule and meeting customer expectations.

Training:
To commence their career, new Flight Attendants participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week training program located in Houston, Texas. This training focuses on United's safety protocols and customer service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees are welcomed as full-time employees and assigned to one of United's seven hubs – Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles – or another designated flight attendant base location (relocation funds are not provided). During training, United provides a $140/week per diem, accommodations, and two meals per day. Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Prospective Flight Attendants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college are preferred.
- Have at least one year of customer service experience within a service industry sector, such as retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, or social service.
- Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard during emergencies.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Ability to speak, read, and write German fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effectively communicate in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance and excellent grooming standards, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card/employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide); larger visible tattoos must be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not be offensive (avoiding violent, obscene, sexual, racist, objectionable content, or imagery including weapons). Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) necessary for completing required tasks.
- Possess a valid passport book prior to application with at least 18 months of remaining validity. The passport book must be in good condition and in physical possession at the time of application. Travel must be possible to and from all countries United serves without restriction as a working crew member. Applicants are responsible for verifying travel eligibility to all destinations in United's network.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to an overhead bin or window exit), and push and pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment, achieving a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold simultaneously, without shoes, to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Required to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to support United’s 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training Expectations:
- Flight Attendant trainees must successfully complete an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the Flight Attendant position.
- Must successfully pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history. The background must not prohibit travel to or from any location United serves. For example, candidates must address any potential travel restrictions, such as those imposed by Canada for DWI/DUI charges within the last 10 years, ensuring they possess any necessary permits (like a Temporary Resident Permit) if applicable.
