Flight Operations Flight Instructor

Southwest Airlines is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Flight Operations Flight Instructor to join its Flight Operations Department in Dallas, Texas. This full-time, regular position offers a competitive hourly rate of $76.64, with potential for future increases based on the collective bargaining agreement, along with opportunities for overtime and shift premiums. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of Southwest Airlines' operations by providing comprehensive training to pilots.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and conduct classroom and simulator training in strict accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Training Policies/Manuals, and all relevant Company requirements.
  • Facilitate effective and engaging learning experiences for pilots.
  • Develop and create instructional and evaluation materials to support training programs.
  • Maintain the integrity of course materials and procedures through continuous self-study, skills practice, critique reviews, and active participation in instructor meetings.
  • Perform additional job duties as directed by management.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Proven experience in operating aircraft.
  • Must hold an unrestricted USA DOT/FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, including the "Airplane Multiengine Land" Category and Class Ratings and "English Proficient" limitation.
  • Possess a valid United States Driver's License.
  • Must meet all regulatory criteria to obtain and maintain Flight Deck Jumpseat Access, including continuous enrollment in Rap Back.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the operation of computer-based training equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of flight training instructional duties, coupled with a deep understanding of FAR training requirements.
  • Exceptional English verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven ability to read technical aircraft documentation, follow complex technical instructions, and create clear written technical documents.
  • Ability to perform accurate work under pressure while maintaining a high level of flexibility.
  • Capacity to work varied assigned hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, on a rotating schedule to support 24/7 operations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or possess current authorization to work in the U.S., with no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.
  • Must maintain a well-groomed and professional appearance in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Adhere to company attendance standards and confidentiality expectations.
  • Must be at least 23 years of age.
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours as needed.
  • Must maintain professional conduct both during and after company hours and at company events.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, holidays, and overtime.

Physical Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to read computer/video/flight deck displays.
  • Capable of participating in the Line Observation Program and safely enter/exit aircraft under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Must be able to enter/exit simulators, mock-ups, and briefing rooms.
  • Ability to sit in a simulator for up to 4 hours.
  • Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language.
  • Proficient in using computer and other office tools.
  • Must be able to move up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and operate a Flight Simulator.
  • Ability to manipulate flight controls fully.
  • Must pass an annual flight evaluation.
  • Ability to present and facilitate for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to make/receive audible call outs in classroom and simulator settings.
