Chief Flight Instructor

Overview

LIFT Academy seeks a highly qualified Chief Flight Instructor to lead its flight training operations. This pivotal role is responsible for directing flight instructors, department managers, and administrative teams to foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and operational excellence across the LIFT academy network of training campuses. The Chief Flight Instructor plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and standardization of flight training, working collaboratively with student advisory teams to promote efficient training outcomes and successful program completion for students.

Responsibilities

The Chief Flight Instructor's essential duties include:

  • Ensuring the quality and standardization of flight training operations throughout the LIFT academy network.
  • Collaborating with the student advisory team to facilitate efficient training progress and drive successful student program outcomes.
  • Performing flight instructor duties as authorized by Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) in accordance with the approved Training Course Outline (TCO).
  • Providing coaching, mentorship, development, and, when necessary, disciplinary action for reporting associates.
  • Verifying that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are consistently met by all assigned students as mandated by the TCO.
  • Delegating tasks and projects to team members and monitoring their successful, on-time, and on-budget completion.
  • Recommending and developing improvements to curriculum and courseware as appropriate.
  • Attending assigned administrative, standardization, in-service training, and instructor development meetings.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the academy's operations.

Required Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the individual must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold an FAA certificated flight instructor rating with airplane single-engine land, airplane multi-engine land, and instrument privileges.
  • Meet the requirements for Chief Instructor as specified in 14 CFR 141.35, including:
    • A minimum of 2000 hours as pilot in command.
    • Flight training experience, acquired as either a certificated flight instructor or an instructor in a military pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of at least:
      • 3 years and a total of 1000 flight hours; or
      • 1,500 flight hours.
  • Possess a current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to apply effective instructional techniques both in the classroom and during flight.
  • Exhibit strong aircraft piloting skills, including familiarity with and ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures.
  • Possess knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and related administrative and operational procedures and requirements.
  • Have strong customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a leader managing and coaching direct reports in an operations-focused, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with G1000 avionics.
  • Experience with DA40 NG and/or DA42-VI aircraft.

Regulatory Requirements

  • Ability to pass initial and ongoing drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Skills and Attributes

Language Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Decision Making: Makes day-to-day decisions supporting strategic and tactical direction. Decisions often require significant thought and leadership and are structured. Decisions will have a significant business impact.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Demands: Able to stand at least 70% of the time and lift or move up to 25 pounds up to 35% of the time.

Work Environment: Potential need for flexible hours and short-notice availability. Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced and potentially noisy environment while consistently exercising sound judgment.

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including overnight and weekend travel.
