Aviation Captain Job Description
The Aviation Captain, acting as Pilot-in-Command (PIC), provides safe and efficient air transportation in support of Lowe's Companies, Inc. and its subsidiaries. This individual adheres to operational guidelines outlined in The Lowe's Companies, Inc. Aviation Operations Manual (AOM) and complies with all mandatory FAA rules and regulations. The role encompasses comprehensive responsibilities, including weather briefings, fuel planning, flight plan filing, transportation logistics, and ensuring the safety of all passengers, crew, and cargo. This position is critical to Lowe's Aviation, ensuring efficient fleet utilization to facilitate timely transportation for key decision-makers conducting essential company business. The Captain will also perform ancillary duties shared among Captains within the Aviation Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- When assigned as PIC, the Captain is administratively and operationally responsible for all crew members, ensuring their clear understanding of assigned duties.
- Ensures flight operations adhere to the Lowe's Aviation Operations Manual, CFRs, regulations of foreign countries, and Lowe's company policies.
- Delegates duties to the Second-in-Command for the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft.
- Acts as Pilot in Command (PIC) with final authority in the aircraft's operation.
- Holds ultimate responsibility for the safe and efficient conduct of assigned flights.
- Actively participates in the Safety Management System.
- Verifies the aircraft's airworthiness and registration, ensuring all required documentation is onboard.
- Checks weather and applicable NOTAMs, determining fuel, oil, and oxygen requirements.
- Determines aircraft weight and balance.
- Ensures database currency.
- Ensures Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) are updated and adequately charged for assigned flights.
- Confirms all flight planning requirements have been met.
- Verifies that aircraft crewmembers possess valid certificates, Medical Certificates, passports, and visas, as required.
- Ensures flights are not commenced if a crewmember is unfit to fly or incapable of performing duties safely due to injury, sickness, fatigue, or the effects of any psychoactive substance.
- Ensures flights are not continued beyond the nearest suitable airport when a crewmember's capacity is significantly reduced due to fatigue, sickness, or lack of oxygen.
- Confirms any nonstandard environmental rules and procedures at departure and destination airports.
- Completes a thorough aircraft preflight inspection before each departure.
- Provides comprehensive Passenger Safety Briefings.
- Operates the aircraft according to Lowe's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and checklists, staying within aircraft limitations.
- Continuously monitors usable fuel to ensure safe landing with appropriate reserves, communicating with ATC during abnormal situations.
- Ensures compliance with customs, immigration, and cabotage laws.
- Completes all postflight duties, including notifying the Company of deviations to the planned itinerary, schedule, or overnight location.
- Records flight times and aircraft defects accurately.
- Reports all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to the Chief Pilot and/or Director of Aviation promptly.
- Reports any act of unlawful interference to the FAA or State (Mandatory Occurrence Report), as appropriate, and to the designated local authority.
- Reports any hazardous weather or flight conditions encountered that are likely to affect other aircraft to the appropriate ATC facility.
- In the event of an accident/incident, preserves flight and cockpit voice recorder data.
- Notifies the appropriate authority, by the quickest available means, of any accident involving the aircraft (unless the PIC is incapacitated, then the Director of Aviation or senior flight crewmember assumes responsibility).
- Undertakes additional duties within the Aviation Department in functional areas such as Training, Standards, Data Management, International Operations, and Security, as delegated by the Chief Pilot. These responsibilities will be rotated amongst Captains to promote professional development.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3,000 Hours Total Flight Time.
- Ability to handle and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP).
- First Class Medical Certificate.
- 1,000 Hours in similar type and complexity as PIC (if not G-VII type rated).
- Corporate Aviation experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- G-VII type rating.
