Flight Captain
General Dynamics is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Flight Captain to ensure the safe and efficient operation of company aircraft. This full-time position, located in Dulles, Virginia, is within the Corporate Headquarters Business Unit and reports to the Lead Captain. The Flight Captain will exercise pilot-in-command authority for assigned flights, prioritizing safety, security, and quality.
Responsibilities:
The Flight Captain will:
- Determine aircraft airworthiness and flight readiness in compliance with all local, federal, and company regulations and policies.
- Supervise flight and ground crews across various operational conditions, both domestically and internationally.
- Exercise sound judgment in flight, managing irregularities and adverse weather, ensuring passenger and company asset safety.
- Supervise loading of passengers, baggage, and cargo.
- Calculate aircraft performance and weight and balance, adhering to Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) and company guidelines.
- Coordinate flight planning with flight operations and scheduling personnel, communicating essential information to passengers.
- Perform second-in-command duties as assigned.
- Promote effective Crew Resource Management (CRM) throughout operations.
- Ensure the proper servicing, storing, and security of company aircraft and equipment.
- Review purchase orders, conduct post-flight inspections, and report malfunctions to maintenance.
- Verify flight crew fitness for duty.
- Adhere to the Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOP), and corporate policies.
- Actively participate in the aviation Safety Management System (SMS).
- Submit required documentation and timesheets promptly.
- Maintain advanced pilot skills and knowledge while aligning with flight department objectives.
- Undertake additional department duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Extensive aeronautical experience and education.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Multi-Engine Land).
- Minimum of one Turbojet Type Rating required, GVII type preferred.
- College degree preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 3,000 total flight hours as PIC or SIC of fixed-wing aircraft.
- Minimum of 500 hours as pilot-in-command of turbojet aircraft.
- Unrestricted passport, VISA, and health for global travel.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
- FAA First Class Medical certification.
- Corporate flight department experience preferred.
- G-VII or Gulfstream experience preferred.
- International flight operations experience preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work at the Corporate Headquarters Flight Operations facility during standard work hours, with availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
- Team-oriented, proactive individual with a positive attitude, integrity, and a commitment to finding solutions that benefit the department and company.
- Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from the Flight Operations facility in Sterling, Virginia.
- Full COVID-19 vaccination is required by start date unless a medical or religious exception is granted.
- Ability to lift and move up to 62 pounds.
