Lead Captain - Gulfstream 550
Jet Aviation is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Lead Captain for a Gulfstream 550, based in Knoxville, Tennessee (KTYS) and located in Alcoa, TN. This is an onsite, professional-level Flight Services position.
The Lead Captain reports to the Regional Chief Pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, emphasizing safety, security, and quality. He or she exercises Pilot-in-Command authority on all assigned flights and serves as the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and/or cancel flights based on weather or other conditions.
- Ensure flights are conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate aircraft schedules and training with flight crew and Customer Service Representatives (CSR), using supplemental crew as needed.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing and cleaning.
- Ensure assigned crew members submit and review flight and duty records and all other required documentation.
- Ensure aircraft manuals and Jeppesen charts/EFBs are current, delegating tasks as needed.
- Coordinate crew member training and check rides based on the annual training calendar, in conjunction with the Manager of Training.
- Coordinate time off and training events with crew members while maintaining maximum aircraft coverage.
- Determine that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Mentor and coach crew members to assist in their professional development.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
- Attend Lead Captain meetings.
- Assist the Account Director as requested.
- Assist in the hiring of flight crew.
- Institute necessary changes required by en route conditions to ensure flights continue under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conduct flights safely and prudently, in accordance with industry and company standards.
- Accurately complete all trip paperwork.
- Ensure a thorough understanding with the Second-in-Command regarding all aspects of flight.
- Record all aircraft discrepancies, report them immediately to the Director of Maintenance, and determine if the inoperative item can be deferred or needs repair.
- Maintain a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, arranging hangar storage as needed.
- Obtain current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS.
- File flight plans with the FAA or ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyze area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
- Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC).
- Conduct passenger safety briefings or assign that duty to the Second-in-Command.
- Impart knowledge and skills to the Second-in-Command to prepare them for Pilot-in-Command duties.
- Complete and send the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Complete and send the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Actively support the open sharing of information on all safety issues and report all safety hazards and concerns.
- Immediately report any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Delegate duties, but not responsibility, as needed.
- Other duties as required.
- Represent Jet Aviation internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
Minimum Requirements:
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
- 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- 1500 hours Turbine time.
- 100 hours Night flight time.
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
- 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness to travel worldwide extensively and without restrictions.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands:
The role requires the ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; stand, walk, or sit frequently; occasionally climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds above their heads. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
Work Environment:
The employee must be able to work in both heavy maintenance and upscale customer areas. The noise level is usually moderate with occasional high volume. The employee may be exposed to vibration and occasional fuel fumes. Willingness and ability to work in all types of weather conditions is required. The Hangar environment may be extreme hot and cold during certain seasons.
