Job Title: Plane Captain

The Plane Captain is responsible for aircraft handling, servicing, and performing daily and turnaround inspections. This role provides pre-operational inspections, fuels ground support equipment, and offers technical assistance and guidance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Performs duties of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
  • Conducts daily and turnaround inspections per applicable procedures.
  • Initiates and completes applicable maintenance forms.
  • Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing according to established procedures.
  • Launches and recovers aircraft.
  • Serves as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
  • Tows aircraft and acts as aircraft brake rider when required.
  • Secures aircraft by tying down and covering them using established procedures.
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.
  • Utilizes two-way communication equipment as required.
  • Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Ensures compliance with general and industrial safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
  • Provides courteous and professional customer service.
  • Operates portable firefighting equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the work center.
  • Performs other qualified duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, and push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
  • Close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear at the normal range.
  • Must complete training program and be certified in writing as a plane captain, with semi-annual requalification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required).
  • Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
  • Must be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S).
  • Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 is strongly preferred.
  • Licensing and certification requirements may include:
    • Hazardous Waste Communications Training
    • FOD and TCP Awareness Trained
    • ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
    • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
    • Licensed on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, and engine start unit.
  • May be required to handle hazardous materials.
  • Ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • May require the use of a respirator.

Compensation and Benefits

HIRING HOURLY Rate of Pay: $50.66 (Hourly rate set by CBA)
