Role Summary and Purpose

FlightSafety International seeks a highly qualified and experienced C-17 Pilot Instructor to deliver specialized, ground-based training within the established Training System (TS) curriculum. This vital role involves the rigorous instruction, evaluation, and measurement of training progression for C-17 aircrews, ensuring the highest standards of operational readiness and proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

The instructor is responsible for conducting comprehensive training utilizing various state-of-the-art devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), the C-17 aircraft, and other ground training systems. Key duties encompass:

  • Providing expert instruction in C-17 air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures, including the critical diagnosis and remediation of student deficiencies.
  • Maintaining superior subject matter expertise (SME), instructional capability, and deep knowledge of current operational procedures.
  • Conducting thorough briefings, debriefings, and counseling sessions for all pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster and maintain a high level of proficiency.
  • Performing essential administrative functions related to training, such as record keeping, interfacing with user organizations, monitoring student progress, training program development, and counseling.
  • Contributing directly to the accuracy and relevance of training materials by providing inputs for courseware corrections, modifications, and updates to training policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining instructional expertise by flying the WST (as required).
  • Maintaining operational currency by flying on the C-17 aircraft in an observer status (as required).
  • Serving as the designated C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, operational personnel, and test events, as assigned.
  • Potentially serving as a Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when designated by the Employer.
  • Accomplishing Simulator Certification (SIMCERT) and Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties, when assigned.
  • Assisting with project and development work, as assigned.
  • Attending key organizational meetings, including Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation Boards (SEB), Training Review Panels (TRP), Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, and Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as required.
  • Fulfilling additional roles such as Learning Center monitor, safety representative, physical/cyber security representative, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as assigned.
  • Travel is required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications and Expertise

Education

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience is required.
  • This experience must include five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with documented air drop and aerial refueling expertise, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
  • A minimum of two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics is mandatory.
  • The ability to maintain an active SECRET Security Clearance is essential.
  • Highly Desired: Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Proven ability to clearly relay complex information and effectively present to and respond to questions from customers and students.
  • Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems (TSs).
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to successfully accomplish annual internal standardization evaluations.
