Program Overview

The True North program is designed to cultivate the next generation of aviation leaders by making significant investments in aviation students at affiliated universities. This initiative involves strategic outreach and partnership with institutions such as Delaware State University (DSU), University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), and California Baptist University (CBU).

Program Benefits

  • Financial Assistance: Participants will receive $12,500 in post-instrument funds from Horizon Air, with Alaska Airlines providing the remaining flight lab fees up to $42,500.
  • Career Path: Offers a defined route to certification and subsequent employment as a Pilot with Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines upon successful program completion. Conditional positions with Alaska Airlines will be offered in order of Horizon Seniority Number, provided minimum qualifications for the First Officer role are met. Interviewing with Alaska Airlines is not required as this is integrated into the True North program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Join Horizon Air and be placed on the Pathway list.
  • Fulfill all program requirements.
  • Achieve the top position on the seniority list.
  • Opportunity to transition to Alaska Airlines via the Pathway Program, contingent upon meeting requirements and seniority.
  • Commit to a minimum of 5 years of employment with Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines post-program completion.

Program Specific Requirements

  • Successful completion of a private pilot license.
  • Possession of a 1st Class Medical certificate.
  • Enrollment in an aviation program at DSU, UMES, or CBU.
  • Maintain good standing with the affiliated university.
  • Agreement to a release of records, granting Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines full access to training records, disciplinary records, attendance records, and any other relevant information for the True North program.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
