Job Summary
SAIC is seeking qualified candidates to serve as Remote Pilot Operators (RPO) for the En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) Offshore Automation (OA) team. This role provides critical Air Traffic Controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the Honolulu Control Facility (HCF). The RPO simulates the actions of pilots and other air traffic controllers within a high-fidelity training simulator, utilizing a simulated radar display and voice communication system. Responsibilities include responding to voice commands, inputting data to simulate pilot actions, translating displayed information into ATC terminology, and communicating with controllers using proper phraseology.
Note: This is not a UAS, UAV, RPV, or drone pilot position.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate simulated radar display and voice communication systems to mimic pilot and remote ATC facility actions during training exercises.
- Receive voice commands from internal or external sources.
- Input appropriate entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions.
- Translate displayed information into correct Air Traffic Control (ATC) terminology.
- Respond to controllers via the Voice Communication System (VCS) using proper phraseology.
- Complete required certifications, including classroom (airspace and procedures test) and lab (performance as an RPO on all positions).
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams and manuals.
- Ability to speak clearly and be understood.
- 1 to 4 years of experience as a Remote Pilot Operator (RPO).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and certification in ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation lab.
- Direct technical and operational ATC experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65.
- Effective team building skills.
- MS Office Suite Proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Basic familiarization with current technological tools (tablets, notebooks, applications).
- Basic familiarization or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.
- Potential requirement for operational expertise in the operation and maintenance of National Airspace System (NAS) facilities, systems, subsystems, and equipment.
Compensation
Target salary range: $40,001 – $80,000. The estimated salary range reflects the typical compensation for this position based on experience and other contributing factors.
