Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) Lead - Air Traffic Controller Training

Job Summary

SAIC is seeking qualified Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) Lead candidates to support the En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) Offshore Automation (OA) team. This role provides Air Traffic Controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the Honolulu Control Facility (HCF). The RPO will simulate the actions and communications of pilots and other air traffic control facilities within a high-fidelity training environment.

Note: This position is not for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RPV), or drone operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate simulated radar displays and voice communication systems to replicate pilot actions and communications during training exercises.
  • Receive voice commands and input appropriate entries into automated systems to simulate pilot actions.
  • Translate displayed information into Air Traffic Control (ATC) terminology.
  • Respond to controllers using proper phraseology via the Voice Communication System (VCS).
  • Complete required certifications, including classroom (airspace and procedures tests) and lab (performance as an RPO on all positions).

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams and manuals.
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Remote Pilot Operator (RPO).

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team (e.g., Multimedia Developers, Quality Assurance, Instructional System Designers, Subject Matter Experts, Instructors).
  • Experience and certification in ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation labs.
  • Direct technical and operational ATC experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65.
  • Effective team-building skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Basic familiarity with current technology tools (tablets, notebooks, applications).
  • Basic familiarity or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.
  • Operational expertise in the operation and maintenance of National Airspace System (NAS) facilities, systems, subsystems, and equipment may be required.

Compensation

Target salary range: $40,001 – $80,000. This estimate is based on experience and other factors.
