Position Overview
FlightSafety International seeks a dedicated and skilled Boom Operator Instructor to join its team. This role is pivotal in the accomplishment of all simulator-based training for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation KC-46 Boom Operators. The instructor is responsible for the effective instruction and accurate measurement of training progress for students undertaking established aircrew training curricula.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts detailed briefings, debriefings, and counseling sessions with Boom Operators to cultivate and maintain the highest levels of student proficiency.
- Extracts and analyzes student data, preparing results for comprehensive student review sessions.
- Delivers training utilizing a diverse range of devices, including classrooms, Boom Operator Part Task Trainers (PTTB), Boom Operator Trainers (BOT), Fuselage Trainers (FuT), Weapon System Trainers (WST), Pilot Part Task Trainers (PTTP), and KC-46 aircraft.
- Performs other essential ground-based training for Boom Operator crew members, focusing on tanker operating procedures, including the diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert for KC-46 Boom Operators for students and relevant personnel.
- Upholds exceptional standards in instructional delivery, knowledge depth, capabilities, and overall expertise.
- Develops and maintains expert-level knowledge of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Consistently demonstrates outstanding knowledge and practical application of instructional principles and theories pertinent to aircrew training systems.
- Provides valuable input for courseware corrections, modifications, and updates to training policies and procedures.
- Assists with assigned project and development tasks.
- Operates the Student Management System efficiently.
Additional Duties
- Performs administrative tasks related to training, including meticulous record keeping, monitoring student advancement, and conducting counseling sessions.
- Reviews assigned CBT lessons and classroom lesson plans to ensure content accuracy and the highest level of Quality Assurance, recommending and incorporating corrections, modifications, and updates to established curricula.
- Supports the development of courseware and the maintenance of established training curricula.
- Contributes to training device development initiatives.
- Participates in at least one annual aircraft familiarization flight in a non-flying, additional crew member capacity.
- Undertakes travel as required.
- Executes other assigned duties as needed.
Minimum Education Requirements
- A Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Aviation Operations Associates Degree is highly desired.
- Must be a current or previously qualified Boom Operator Instructor, possessing equivalent education, experience, and training.
Minimum Experience Requirements
- Requires prior experience as a qualified Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) Boom Operator Flight Instructor or as a Tanker AAR Aircrew Training System (ATS) Boom Operator Instructor.
- Experience in either position must have occurred within 5 years preceding the date of assignment to the KC-46 ATS role.
- Must have logged a minimum of 200 flying hours in U.S. Air Force or Allied Nation tanker or tanker/receiver aircraft, or equivalent flight simulator, with at least 50% of hours accrued in the actual aircraft.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to morally and ethically influence others towards successful achievement of program objectives.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English fluently.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Possesses the capability to effectively interface with students, providing immediate remediation or determining alternative courses of action when necessary.
- Holds fundamental knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Capable of successfully completing an annual internal standardization evaluation.
- Must currently possess, or be able to obtain, a SECRET security clearance.
Materials and Equipment Utilized
- Computer systems equipped with software applications such as word processing and spreadsheet programs, printers, and classroom presentation equipment.
- Boom Operator Trainer (BOT) and KC-46 aircraft, as applicable.
- Computer-Based Training (CBT) systems.
- Student Management System.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands and work environment described represent those encountered by an employee performing the essential functions of this position. While executing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers for handling or feeling, reach with hands and arms, and engage in talking or hearing. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 20 pounds may be required. The role necessitates close and distance vision abilities and the capacity to adjust focus. The typical noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
