The Pilot Instructor is a crucial role responsible for the effective accomplishment of ground-based training for C-17 pilots. This specialist is tasked with instructing, mentoring, and accurately measuring the training progression of crewmembers utilizing the established Training System (TS) curriculum. The instructor plays a direct role in maintaining the highest standards of readiness and operational excellence for C-17 aircrews.

A Bachelor’s degree is strictly required for this position.
Candidates must possess a minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience. This must include five (5) years of experience as a C-17 pilot with demonstrated expertise in both air drop and aerial refueling operations, or the ability to secure an AMC/A3TK waiver. Furthermore, two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience focusing on air drop, aerial refueling, and tactical training is required. Recent experience as a C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor and CATS MECOC certification are highly desirable.
The instructor will regularly interact with the C-17 WST, the C-17 Aircraft, CBT Systems, classroom presentation equipment (overhead projectors), the Training Management System / Graduate Training Management Information System (GTIMS), standard office equipment (copy machine), and computer systems.
The role necessitates that the incumbent meet specific physical demands to successfully execute the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, or hear, and use hands to handle or feel objects and controls. The position frequently requires the ability to ingress and egress the simulator and aircraft and involves working in inclement weather and temperature extremes as dictated by Air Force and company guidelines. The instructor must be able to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Crucially, the teammate must be capable of safely exiting the WST by way of the escape ladder down to the floor. Noise levels in the work environment may range from quiet office settings to extremely loud operational areas.
