Position Overview
The C-17 Pilot Instructor is tasked with delivering comprehensive ground-based training to C-17 pilots. This critical role encompasses instructing and rigorously assessing the training progress of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Conducts training utilizing advanced devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training methodologies for all C-17 TS pilots. Training focuses on air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures, incorporating the diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
Maintains an exceptional level of subject matter expertise, instructional proficiency, and overall capability.
Performs pre-flight and post-flight briefings and debriefings, providing counsel to all pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster and sustain high levels of proficiency.
Manages administrative duties associated with training, including liaison with the user organization, meticulous record-keeping, monitoring student advancement, student counseling, curriculum development, and the maintenance of training programs.
Contributes valuable input for courseware corrections and modifications, and ensures the upkeep of training policies and procedures.
Operates the WST as required to uphold instructional expertise.
Flies aboard the C-17 aircraft in an observer capacity, as needed, to remain current on operational procedures and to effectively monitor student progress.
Serves as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, staff, and during test events, as required.
Assumes the role of Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead) when assigned by the employer.
Acts as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator when assigned.
Accomplishes Simulator Certification (SIMCERT) and Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties as assigned.
Participates in project and development work as assigned.
Periodically attends Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings when the FCA is unavailable.
Attends Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC) as required when the FCA is unavailable.
Fulfills Learning Center monitor duties as assigned.
Undertakes safety representative responsibilities as designated/assigned.
Manages physical and cyber security representative duties as assigned.
Performs hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as designated/assigned.
Undertakes travel as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum Experience:
A minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience is required.
Of this experience, at least five (5) years must be as a C-17 pilot, with demonstrated air drop and aerial refueling experience, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
Requires two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience specifically in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.

Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is essential.

Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories relevant to Training Systems (TS).
Proficiency with personal computers and software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance is mandatory.

Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
Noise levels can vary from quiet to extremely loud.
Must be able to exit the WST by way of an escape ladder to the floor.
