Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is entrusted with the critical responsibility of delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, strictly adhering to all applicable aviation regulations and the rigorous training principles established by FlightSafety International.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for diverse clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
- Develop and meticulously prepare training materials designed to support effective training delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and the established curriculum.
- Accurately evaluate and measure trainee progress, providing informed recommendations for qualification or additional training as required.
- Maintain precise and thorough training records for each client, actively contributing to their successful achievement of training objectives.
- Proactively identify potential client training issues and collaborate with leadership to seek timely assistance before execution.
- Consistently maintain all necessary Instructor qualifications in strict accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Willingness and ability to participate in FlightSafety's DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an equivalent ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- Alternatively, for candidates without an ATP, adherence to the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation, is mandatory.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military aviation training environments.
- A total flight time exceeding 2,500 hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of current aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Strong understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classroom environments and deliver engaging instruction.
- Demonstrates foundational facilitation skills.
- Exhibits excellent first-level customer service capabilities.
- Possesses a strong willingness to be coached and receive constructive feedback for continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment for a Flight Instructor involves a dynamic setting that combines classroom instruction, simulator operations, and occasional exposure to varied physical conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Regular use of hands for fingering, handling, feeling objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; and communication via talking or hearing.
- Occasional requirements include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, and smelling.
- Must exhibit the physical range of motion necessary to:
- Reach, exert pressure, and precisely manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reach and operate numerous controls within a simulator device from the instructor’s chair.
- Safely enter and exit simulator devices via provided ramps.
- Move freely between instructor stations, screens, and podiums during classroom instruction.
- Safely exit a malfunctioning simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific vision abilities essential for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The instructor must be capable of regularly lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Frequent exposure to areas near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional work in elevated or precarious locations and various outdoor weather conditions.
- Infrequent exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risks of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.
