Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This role ensures training is conducted in strict adherence to aviation regulations and FlightSafety's established training principles, contributing directly to the success and qualification of aviation professionals.
Tasks and Responsibilities
A Flight Instructor performs a variety of critical duties, including:
- Conducting comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
- Developing and preparing effective training materials tailored to meet client needs and align with applicable curriculum standards.
- Evaluating and measuring trainee progress throughout their instruction period.
- Recommending trainees for qualification or proposing additional training as required.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed training records for each client, facilitating their achievement of stated objectives.
- Identifying potential client training issues and proactively seeking assistance before challenges impact delivery.
- Ensuring personal instructor qualifications remain current and compliant with all regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates for the Flight Instructor position must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- If not holding an ATP, must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating is required.
- Experience under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training experience is preferred.
- A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time is preferred.

- Familiarity with common aviation regulations.
- Effective classroom management skills and the ability to teach complex subjects clearly.
- Proficiency in basic facilitation skills.
- Excellent foundational customer service abilities.
- A willingness to be coached and receptive to feedback for continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role requires physical capability to perform simulator operations and classroom instruction. This includes:
- Regular use of hands for controls and materials.
- Reaching, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, or smelling as needed.
- Specific requirements include physical range of motion to operate rudder controls with feet and manipulate controls within the simulator from the instructor's chair.
- Ability to enter and exit the simulator via a ramp and move within classroom settings.
- Capability to exit a simulator in a severely pitched attitude if necessary.
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment are essential.
- Regularly lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds is required.
- The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts and potential exposure to elevated locations, outside weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, temperature extremes, and potential risks of electrical shock, radiation, or vibration.
