C-17 Pilot Instructor
FlightSafety International, the world's premier aviation training company, seeks a qualified and dedicated C-17 Pilot Instructor. This individual will be responsible for delivering exceptional ground-based training to C-17 pilots, meticulously instructing and evaluating their progress within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct training utilizing various resources, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground-based tools, for all C-17 TS pilots, emphasizing air drop and aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, including diagnosing and addressing student challenges.
- Maintain an advanced level of subject matter expertise, instructional proficiency, and overall competence.
- Conduct comprehensive briefings and debriefings, providing expert counsel to pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster and sustain a high level of proficiency.
- Perform administrative tasks related to training, including liaising with user organizations, maintaining records, monitoring student advancement, offering guidance, developing training materials, and upholding training program integrity.
- Contribute valuable input for courseware revisions and enhancements, and update training policies and procedures accordingly.
- Operate the WST (as needed) to maintain instructional expertise.
- Participate in flights in an observer capacity (as required) to stay current on operational procedures and assess student performance.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, staff, and testing activities, as needed.
- Act as a Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead), when designated.
- Serve as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when designated.
- Carry out Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) responsibilities when designated.
- Contribute to project and development initiatives, as assigned.
- Attend Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP) and Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings periodically (when FCA is unavailable).
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as required (when FCA is unavailable).
- Carry out Learning Center monitor duties, as assigned.
- Carry out safety representative duties, as designated.
- Carry out physical/cyber security representative duties, as assigned.
- Carry out hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as designated.
- Undertake travel, as required.
- Fulfill other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, with five (5) years specifically as a C-17 pilot with experience in air drop and aerial refueling, or ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required, with the ability to clearly and effectively convey information to others.
- Proficiency in presenting information and responding to customer inquiries is necessary.
- A working knowledge of instructional principles and theories related to Training Systems (TSs) is required.
- Familiarity with personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, is essential.
- Must successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Must possess an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
This position requires the ability to communicate effectively, sit, stand, walk, and use hands to manipulate objects. The individual may occasionally be required to reach, stoop, or kneel. Frequent simulator and aircraft ingress/egress, work in varying weather conditions, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and 35 pounds occasionally are required. The noise level may vary from quiet to extremely loud. Emergency egress from the WST via an escape ladder is required.
