Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. Adhering to stringent aviation regulations and FlightSafety Training principles, this individual ensures trainees receive comprehensive and effective instruction.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develop and prepare engaging and informative training materials that cater to specific client needs, ensuring alignment with the applicable curriculum.
- Evaluate and meticulously measure trainee progress, providing recommendations for qualification or additional training based on individual performance.
- Maintain accurate and detailed training records for each client, facilitating their successful achievement of desired training objectives.
- Proactively identify potential client training issues and seek appropriate assistance prior to course execution, ensuring a seamless learning experience.
- Maintain personal Instructor qualifications in strict accordance with regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional development.
Minimum Experience
- Willingness to participate in FlightSafety's DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted ATP certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- In the absence of an ATP, candidates must fulfill the requirements outlined in:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating.
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or within a military training environment.
- A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
- Strong understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage classes and deliver engaging instruction.
- Proven first-level facilitation and customer service skills.
- A receptive and coachable mindset, open to receiving feedback and committed to ongoing professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role of Flight Instructor requires individuals to perform tasks that involve regular use of hands for fine motor skills, reaching, and verbal communication. Physical demands may include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and utilizing senses of taste and smell.
Furthermore, candidates must possess the physical range of motion to:
- Operate rudder controls and/or anti-torque mechanisms with both feet, applying appropriate pressure and manipulation.
- Reach and manipulate various controls within the Simulator device while seated in the Instructor's chair.
- Navigate the entry and exit ramp of the Simulator device and move between the Instructor station, screen, and podium within the classroom environment.
- Safely exit a malfunctioning Simulator that may be positioned in a severely pitched attitude.
- Possess specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
The work environment may involve frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, radiation risks, and vibration.
