Flight Instructor - C-17 Aircraft

Purpose of Position
This position is responsible for conducting ground-based training for C-17 pilots, encompassing instruction and evaluation of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The Flight Instructor will:
- Conduct training using a variety of resources including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training for all C-17 TS pilots. This training will focus on airdrop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, including diagnosis and remediation of student issues.
- Maintain a high level of subject knowledge, instructional capability, and expertise.
- Deliver comprehensive briefings and debriefings, and counsel all pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to cultivate and sustain high levels of proficiency.
- Execute administrative duties associated with training, including interfacing with the user organization, recordkeeping, monitoring student progress, providing counseling, developing training programs, and maintaining program records.
- Contribute to courseware corrections, modifications, and updates, as well as the refinement of training policies and procedures.
- Fly the WST (as required) to maintain instructional expertise.
- Fly on the airplane (as required) in observer status to stay current on operational procedures and to observe student progress.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events, as required.
- Function as a Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead), when assigned by the Employer.
- Act as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when assigned by the Employer.
- Perform Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned by the Employer.
- Assist with project and development work, as assigned.
- Periodically attend Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when FCA is unavailable).
- Participate in Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as needed (when FCA is unavailable).
- Fulfill Learning Center monitor duties, as assigned.
- Carry out safety representative duties, as designated/assigned.
- Perform physical/cyber security representative duties, as assigned.
- Accomplish hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as designated/assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience:
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, with five (5) years as a C-17 pilot possessing airdrop and aerial refueling experience, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in airdrop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems (TSs).
- Proficiency with personal computers and software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Successful completion of annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position regularly involves talking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, and using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls. The teammate will occasionally need to reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel. Frequent ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, working in inclement weather and temperature extremes (as per Air Force and company guidelines), is required. The teammate must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Noise levels may range from quiet to extremely loud. The teammate must be able to exit the WST using the escape ladder down to the floor.
