Flight Instructor, C-17 Aircraft

Purpose of Position:
The Pilot Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality ground-based training to C-17 pilots. This role involves instructing and evaluating the progress of crewmembers who are training within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct training using various devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training programs.
- Focus on instructing C-17 TS pilots in air drop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, including diagnosis and remediation of student learning challenges.
- Maintain a high level of subject knowledge, instructional capability, and expertise in C-17 operations.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-training briefings and debriefings, providing individualized counseling to pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to cultivate and maintain high levels of proficiency.
- Perform administrative duties related to training, such as:
- Interfacing with the user organization.
- Maintaining accurate training records.
- Monitoring student progress.
- Providing individual counseling.
- Contributing to training development.
- Maintaining the integrity of training programs.
- Provide valuable input for courseware corrections, modifications, and updates. Contribute to the refinement of training policies and procedures.
- Maintain instructional expertise by regularly flying the WST as needed.
- Maintain currency on operational procedures and observe student progress by flying on the C-17 aircraft in an observer role as required.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events, as required.
- Act as Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead), when assigned by FlightSafety International.
- Serve as Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when assigned by FlightSafety International.
- Fulfill Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned by FlightSafety International.
- Contribute to assigned project and development work.
- Participate in Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB), Training Review Panels (TRP), and Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when FCA is unavailable).
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC) as required (when FCA is unavailable).
- Accomplish assigned Learning Center monitor duties.
- Assume designated/assigned safety representative duties.
- Execute assigned physical/cyber security representative duties.
- Carry out designated/assigned hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties.
- Travel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, including five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience, or eligible for an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to clearly convey information, both verbally and in writing, to others.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possess an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires regular talking and hearing, as well as sitting, standing, and walking. The team member will use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, as well as stooping or kneeling, is also required. The team member will frequently ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft and will work in various weather conditions and temperature extremes, as outlined in Air Force and company guidelines. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Noise levels range from quiet to extremely loud. The team member must be able to exit the WST by way of the escape ladder down to the floor.
