C-17 Pilot Instructor

Position Overview:
The C-17 Pilot Instructor plays a pivotal role in the ground-based training of C-17 pilots, delivering instruction and monitoring the progress of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum. This involves utilizing advanced simulation technology, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and actual C-17 aircraft, to provide realistic and comprehensive training experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct engaging and effective training sessions encompassing a range of critical areas such as air drop procedures, aerial refueling techniques, and transport operating procedures.
- Demonstrate a high level of expertise in C-17 systems and procedures, effectively diagnosing and addressing student challenges to ensure successful knowledge transfer.
- Maintain up-to-date subject matter knowledge and instructional proficiency, remaining current with the latest aviation regulations, technologies, and best practices.
- Facilitate comprehensive briefings and debriefings, providing constructive feedback and personalized guidance to foster a culture of continuous improvement and high proficiency levels among pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel.
- Manage administrative tasks related to training, including interfacing with user organizations, meticulously maintaining training records, and actively monitoring student progress.
- Play an active role in the ongoing development and enhancement of training programs, providing valuable input for courseware corrections and modifications to ensure curriculum relevance and effectiveness.
- Maintain practical flying skills and instructional expertise through regular utilization of the WST simulator.
- Participate in observational flights aboard C-17 aircraft to maintain currency on operational procedures and assess student progress in real-world scenarios.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for students, colleagues, and test events, providing insightful guidance and support as required.
- Contribute to the FlightSafety team by potentially taking on additional responsibilities, including serving as a Flight Check Airman, Community College of the Air Force Evaluator, or Simulator Certification/Evaluation specialist.
- Embrace a collaborative approach, assisting with project and development work as assigned and actively participating in operational meetings and conferences to contribute to overall team success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience, with at least five (5) years specifically as a C-17 pilot, demonstrating proficiency in air drop and aerial refueling operations (waiver possibility for candidates with exceptional experience).
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of dedicated flight instructor experience encompassing air drop, aerial refueling, and tactical maneuvers.
- Recent experience as a C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor and CATS MECOC certification highly desired.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from diverse audiences, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories related to Training Systems (TS).
- Proficiency in utilizing personal computers and various software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
- Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance required.
