Purpose of Position
The Flight Crew Training Instructor (FCTI) holds a critical role in the development of highly skilled aviation professionals. This individual is responsible for conducting all ground-based academic training for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation personnel on the KC-46 aircraft. This includes instruction for Pilots, Aeromedical students, and Maintenance Engine Run students. The FCTI will utilize a variety of training environments, including classrooms, Pilot Part Task Trainers (PTTP), Boom Operator Part Task Trainers (PTTB), Fuselage Trainers (FuT), Weapon Systems Trainers (WST), and the KC-46 aircraft itself. The FCTI plays a crucial part in evaluating training progress and meticulously documenting the performance of students participating in formal aircrew, aeromedical, and maintenance training courses.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of aviation instruction and the KC-46 aircraft. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead Initial, Upgrade, and Requalification academic training utilizing diverse resources, including classrooms, PTTPs, PTTBs, FuTs, WSTs, and the KC-46 aircraft.
- Conduct Maintenance Engine Run courses.
- Deliver additional ground-based training for KC-46 crew members, such as Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer.
- Facilitate briefings, debriefings, and counseling sessions with Pilot, Aeromedical, and Maintenance students to cultivate and maintain exceptional levels of technical expertise and proficiency.
- Analyze student data, extract key insights, and prepare comprehensive performance reviews.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on KC-46 Aircraft Systems, providing guidance and knowledge transfer to students and other relevant personnel as needed.
- Maintain unwavering commitment to exceptional standards of instruction, consistently expanding knowledge, capabilities, and expertise.
- Possess and continuously develop a deep understanding of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Demonstrate exceptional knowledge and application of instructional principles and theories specific to aircrew training systems.
- Actively contribute to courseware corrections and modifications, and provide valuable input for updating training policies and procedures.
- Proficiently operate the Learning Management System and Graduate Training Integration Management System.
- Conduct exams and prepare accurate and timely results.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
- Associate Degree, or a minimum of two years of combined education and experience in addition to the experience requirements outlined below.
Minimum Experience
- Extensive aviation aircrew or aviation-related instructor experience commensurate with the required training topics (specifically, aircraft systems).
- Familiarity with the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in courseware development is a significant advantage.
- Experience as a Crewmember on tanker and receiver aircraft is highly desirable.
- Candidates with experience as Aviation Mechanics, Flight Engineers, Navigators, or Weapon Systems Officers, possessing at least 10 years of military experience in the associated position(s), are strongly encouraged to apply.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Proven ability to ethically and effectively influence others towards achieving program goals.
- Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide on-the-spot remediation and adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Basic proficiency in personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to successfully complete an annual internal standardization evaluation.
- Must currently possess or be eligible to obtain a SECRET clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role primarily involves a standard office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting, computer work, and communication. The ability to lift and maneuver up to 20 pounds occasionally is required. Clear close and distance vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus, are essential. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
