C-17 Pilot Instructor
FlightSafety International, the world's premier professional aviation training company, seeks a qualified Pilot Instructor. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering ground-based training to C-17 pilots, instructing, and assessing the progress of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct training utilizing various devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training platforms for all C-17 TS pilots. Training areas include air drop and aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, with a focus on diagnosing and resolving student difficulties.
- Maintain a superior level of subject matter expertise, instructional proficiency, and overall knowledge.
- Conduct pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings, as well as counsel pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to enhance and sustain a high level of proficiency.
- Execute administrative tasks related to training, including user organization interface, record keeping, student progress monitoring, counseling, training development, and maintenance of training programs.
- Provide feedback for courseware corrections and modifications and contribute to updates of training policies and procedures.
- Operate the WST, as required, to maintain instructional expertise.
- Participate in observation flights on the aircraft, as required, to maintain currency on operational procedures and monitor student progress.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and during test events, as needed.
- Act as a Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead), when designated by the Employer.
- Serve as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when assigned.
- Perform Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned.
- Assist in project and development initiatives, as directed.
- Attend Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP) periodically, as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when FCA is unavailable).
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as required (when FCA is unavailable).
- Fulfill Learning Center monitor responsibilities, as assigned.
- Carry out safety representative duties, as designated/assigned.
- Perform physical/cyber security representative duties, as assigned.
- Undertake hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as designated/assigned.
- Travel, as required.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, with five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience. AMC/A3TK waiver may be considered.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Ability to clearly communicate information, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems (TSs).
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role involves regular verbal communication, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, and the use of hands for manipulating objects and controls. Occasional reaching, stooping, and kneeling are required. Frequent ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft is necessary, as is the ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes, adhering to Air Force and company guidelines. The candidate must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Noise levels range from quiet to extremely loud. The candidate must be able to exit the WST via an escape ladder.
