C-17 Pilot Instructor
FlightSafety International, a global leader in professional aviation training and simulation technologies, seeks a highly qualified Pilot Instructor to deliver ground-based instruction to C-17 pilots. This role involves instructing and evaluating crew members using the established Training System curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct training using various devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), C-17 aircraft, and Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), focusing on air drop and aerial refueling procedures.
- Diagnose and remediate student performance issues, ensuring a high level of proficiency.
- Maintain expertise in subject matter and instructional delivery methods.
- Conduct pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings, counseling both pilots and maintenance personnel.
- Perform administrative duties related to training, including record-keeping, student monitoring, and program development.
- Provide input for courseware updates and training policy revisions.
- Maintain instructional proficiency by operating the WST as needed.
- Observe operational procedures and student progress through in-flight observation.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert for students, personnel, and test events.
- Act as Flight Check Airman (FCA) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, as assigned.
- Complete Simulator Certification/Evaluation duties when assigned.
- Participate in project and development work.
- Attend relevant standardization/evaluation boards, training review panels, and instructor meetings.
- Attend HQ Air Mobility Command curriculum reviews and conferences, when necessary.
- Fulfill learning center monitor, safety representative, physical/cyber security representative, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Eight years of flying experience, with five years as a C-17 pilot, including air drop and aerial refueling experience, or able to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification is highly desired.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written.
- Ability to clearly communicate information to others.
- Proven ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles applicable to Training Systems.
- Proficiency in using personal computers and standard software applications.
- Ability to successfully accomplish annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance is mandatory.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The role requires regular communication and the ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands. The individual must be able to occasionally reach, stoop, or kneel, as well as ingress and egress from simulators and aircraft. Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and noise levels. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 35 pounds occasionally is necessary. The ability to exit the WST via an escape ladder is also required.
