Purpose of the Position
The Pilot Instructor holds a critical role in the execution of simulator-based training within the Weapon System Trainer (WST). This encompasses pre-briefings and debriefings for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation KC-46 Pilots undergoing Quarterly Refresher training. Key responsibilities include instructing and evaluating the progress of Pilot and Maintenance students engaged in established aircrew training curricula.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Deliver Quarterly Refresher training utilizing a variety of methods, including classrooms, Computer-based Training (CBT), the WST, and the KC-46 aircraft.
- Conduct supplementary ground-based training, as required, for Aircrew Members in tanker and receiver operating procedures, encompassing the diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
- Provide Initial and Recurring training for Maintenance Personnel participating in Engine Run courses.
- Lead briefings and debriefings, and offer personalized counseling to Aircrew Members and Maintenance Personnel to foster and sustain the highest levels of technical proficiency and student expertise.
- Analyze student performance data, extract key insights, and prepare comprehensive student review sessions.
- Serve as a KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students and other relevant personnel, as needed.
- Maintain exceptional standards in instruction, knowledge currency, capabilities, and overall expertise.
- Cultivate and sustain an in-depth understanding of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive grasp and application of instructional principles and theories relevant to aircrew training systems.
- Provide valuable input for courseware corrections and modifications, as well as updates to training policies and procedures.
- Contribute to other project and development initiatives, as assigned.
- Proficiently operate the Student Management System.
- Undertake other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree, or a minimum of four years of combined education and experience in relevant fields, in addition to the experience requirements outlined below.
Minimum Experience
- Proven experience as a qualified Tanker Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) Pilot Flight Instructor or as a Tanker AAR Aircrew Training System (ATS) Pilot Instructor. This experience must have been gained within 5 years of assuming the KC-46 ATS role.
- A minimum of 200 logged flying hours in U.S. Air Force or Allied Nation aircraft, or equivalent flight simulator experience, with at least 50% of those hours accrued in actual aircraft.
- Prior experience as a Receiver AAR Instructor is highly desirable.
- A Type rating in the Boeing 767 (B-767) is preferred.

- Possess strong leadership qualities, inspiring and motivating others to achieve program objectives.
- Demonstrate fluency in English, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess the ability to effectively engage with students, providing immediate remediation or determining alternative courses of action as necessary.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Successfully complete an annual internal standardization evaluation.
- Hold a current SECRET clearance or demonstrate the ability to obtain one.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role primarily involves a standard office environment with prolonged periods of sitting, utilizing computers, and engaging in verbal communication. The selected candidate must be able to lift and move up to 20 pounds occasionally. The work environment generally maintains a moderate noise level.
