AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot
This position involves providing advanced AH-64D/E flight instruction to student pilots, strictly adhering to the Army Aircrew Training Manual. The role mandates prior Instructor Pilot experience at the company level or above. Classes are conducted across day and night shifts, starting as early as 5 am and finishing after midnight. Training takes place at Fort Rucker, Alabama, catering to both US Army and multinational students. Instruction covers advanced flight tasks, advanced navigation, terrain flight techniques, tactics, techniques, and procedures, as well as instrument training. Flight instruction encompasses contact, instruments, weapons gunnery, and night systems under day, night, and night vision goggle modes of flight.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructs students and provides performance evaluations in classroom, flight, and simulator training environments.
- Conducts pre-flight and in-flight briefings, followed by post-flight After Action Reviews.
- Performs end-of-stage check rides.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A High School Diploma is required; an Associate or Bachelor Degree is desired.
- Graduation from the U.S. Army AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot and Methods of Instruction course is mandatory.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an aviator is required, with the last AH-64D/E flight completed within the previous 12 months. (Note: Currency or refresher training may be provided if necessary).
- Possesses a minimum of 1000 hours as a pilot in the AH-64D/E.
- Possesses a minimum of 250 hours as an Instructor Pilot in the AH-64D/E.
- Demonstrates fundamental computer literacy, including but not limited to personal computer use, word processing, database input, accessing electronic publications and the world wide web, utilizing briefing and debriefing software, and completing electronic forms and grade sheets.
- The ability to support periodic travel is required.
- Familiarity with the operation of a military flight training base is necessary.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Must be available to work overtime as required.
- Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as needed.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must hold and maintain a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) second-class Medical Certificate for the duration of the contract or, if a member of the National Guard or Reserves, an Army Class 2 Flight Duty Medical Exam (FDME).
- Language Skills: Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex aviation word and technical documents/diagrams.
- Mathematical Skills: Must be capable of calculating figures and amounts, percentages, and interpreting graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret student requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is essential.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work is primarily conducted in a regular office environment, utilizing personal computers, telephones, and fax machines for communication.
- May involve working in areas with a risk of electrical shock from moving mechanical parts driven by high-pressure hydraulics.
- Will at times be exposed to conditions such as extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises consistent with an aviation facility, including flight line operations.
- Physical Demands: Requires the ability to perform domestic travel as needed. Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladders into a simulator or airplane cockpit. Requires the ability to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under training devices. Must be able to detect odors, hear noises (e.g., bangs), or other sounds to identify problems or flaws in the surrounding environment. Must be able to distinguish colors.
Security
- Strict compliance with all company security and data protection/usage policies and procedures is required. The incumbent is personally responsible for the proper marking and handling of all information and materials in any form. Information shall not be divulged to other employees without a need-to-know or outside the company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company-provided resources.
- The incumbent must be eligible for a DoD Personal Security Clearance.
