AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot

This position is responsible for providing advanced flight instruction on the AH-64D/E helicopter to student pilots, adhering to the Army Aircrew Training Manual. The Instructor Pilot will possess experience at the company level or higher. Training is conducted at Fort Rucker, Alabama, for both U.S. Army and international students. This role encompasses instruction in advanced flight tasks, navigation, terrain flight, tactics, techniques, procedures, and instrument training. Flight instruction includes contact, instruments, weapons gunnery, and night systems using various modes of flight.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Instructs and evaluates student performance in classroom, flight, and simulator training environments.
  • Conducts pre-flight and in-flight briefings, as well as post-flight After Action Reviews.
  • Administers end-of-stage check rides.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Graduate of the U.S. Army AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot and Methods of Instruction course.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an aviator with the most recent AH-64D/E flight within the last 12 months. (Currency or refresher training will be provided if needed.)
  • Minimum of 1000 flight hours as pilot in the AH-64D/E helicopter.
  • Minimum of 250 flight hours as Instructor Pilot in the AH-64D/E helicopter.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, database input, electronic publications, web access, briefing and debriefing software, and electronic form completion.
  • Ability to travel periodically.
  • Familiarity with the operation of a military flight training base.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Willingness to work any shift or day of the week as required.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Second-Class Medical Certificate or, for National Guard or Reserve members, an Army Class 2 Flight Duty Medical Exam (FDME).
  • Capacity to read, analyze, and interpret complex aviation technical documents.
  • Ability to calculate figures, amounts, and percentages, as well as draw and interpret graphs.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, data collection, and drawing conclusions, along with the ability to interpret student needs through verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
  • Must be eligible for a Department of Defense Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment:

  • Standard office environment with communication via computer, telephone, and fax.
  • Exposure to potential electrical shock from moving mechanical parts and hydraulic systems.
  • Possible exposure to extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises consistent with an aviation facility and flight line operations.

Physical Demands:

  • Domestic travel as required.
  • Must be able to walk and climb stairs and ladders to enter simulator or aircraft cockpits.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and crawl on or under training devices.
  • Ability to detect odors, noises, and other sounds, as well as the ability to distinguish colors.
