Position Summary
The primary responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety of guests aboard Company aircraft. This requires being physically and psychologically capable of performing safety procedures and assisting guests during emergencies. Flight Attendants operate in a dynamic environment, needing to manage emergency situations effectively and interact with diverse personalities attentively and pleasantly.
A crucial secondary function is providing guests with a consistent and high level of customer service within the aircraft cabin. This includes delivering food and beverage service while offering an unparalleled Aloha experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Attends preflight briefings covering weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight durations, food/beverage services, and guest counts.
- Greets guests warmly, directs them to assigned seats, and answers flight-related inquiries.
- Assists guests with stowing carry-on luggage safely in overhead compartments or under seats.
- Demonstrates the use of safety equipment (e.g., seat belts, oxygen masks, life jackets) and outlines emergency procedures before departure.
- Monitors aisles to ensure guest adherence to safety regulations, advises guests of safety infractions, and effectively resolves difficult guest situations.
- Directs and assists guests during emergency procedures, such as aircraft evacuation following an emergency landing.
- Provides food and beverage service consistently according to prescribed procedures.
- Collects and reconciles payments for various onboard products, including alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free sales.
- Administers first aid when necessary.
- Completes written and verbal reports on emergency or safety incidents occurring during flight.
- Prepares guests and the aircraft for landing in accordance with procedures.
- Successfully completes annual FAA-approved re-certification provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtains and maintains an Airport Operations Area (AOA) Badge.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in emergency procedures as mandated by Hawaiian Airlines and FAA Regulations.
- Is available to work variable schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Interacts effectively and professionally with colleagues and guests.
- Collaborates with colleagues to deliver exceptional aloha experiences by providing prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints onboard.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify potential issues and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Is able to work in diverse climates and locations globally and adapt to variable shifts.
- Is able to fly at high altitudes.
- Meets the physical demands required by the job.
- Assists ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Can evacuate the aircraft in conditions involving heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Is able to handle and operate oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Can remove and lift emergency cabin windows weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Can jump down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All listed job duties, including emergency duties, are essential functions of the Flight Attendant position.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- Possesses a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Presents a professional image, adhering to appearance standards including no visible body art (tattoos), facial or multiple/upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color/style while in uniform or public areas.
- Demonstrates strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively manage and resolve challenging customer situations.
- Is proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Must possess advanced/business level proficiency in spoken Japanese and be able to read Romaji or Kanji.
- Successfully completes an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Is able to relocate within the state of Hawaiʻi or the continental U.S.
- Is available to work variable schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Can reach 82 inches vertically.
- Can sit comfortably in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Successfully completes pre-employment requirements, including drug testing, tuberculosis (TB) screening, and background checks.
- Is legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship. Hawaiian Airlines does not sponsor employment visas or status for this position.
- Holds a valid passport and is able to secure necessary visas for travel to all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Possesses the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ensures travel documents remain valid throughout training and employment.
- Understands that Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable gravitational loads from turbulence, and varying cabin pressurization levels. This role requires standing for extended periods (up to four to seventeen hours), involving stooping, twisting, pulling, and pushing cabin equipment.
- Current employees must be in good standing with the company.
Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40). Post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing is conducted to detect the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive results will disqualify the applicant for employment.
In compliance with U.S.-based airline requirements, information must be gathered to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, documentation proving current country citizenship and birthplace is required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution experience with the general public in sectors such as retail, education, health care, or professional services.
- College education or degree.
