WestJet is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Investigator to join its Safety team in Calgary, AB. This full-time regular position requires in-person collaboration up to five days per week and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety of aviation operations. Reporting to the Sr. Manager Group Audit, Investigations & Safety Data, the Safety Investigator is responsible for conducting thorough investigations of safety files across all operational groups, including Flight Operations, Airports, Inflight, and Technical Operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct accident and incident investigations in strict accordance with the processes outlined in the Company Safety Manual (CSM) and/or the Encore Safety Manual (ESM). Investigative assignments may encompass Flight Safety, Airport Safety, Inflight Safety, and Technical Operations Safety.

Obtain and meticulously review investigative evidence, which includes but is not limited to employee interviews, air traffic control recordings, weather data, and aircraft maintenance history.

Liaise effectively with external governing investigative bodies such as the Transportation Safety Board (TSB), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), as well as industry partners including Transport Canada, Nav Canada, Airport authorities, and WestJet contractors.

Ensure all investigation actions are accurately and comprehensively documented within the Company Reporting System (CRS).

Perform trending analysis of occurrences recorded in the Company Reporting System (CRS) and provide timely notification of specific trends to responsible leadership.

Recommend, track, and verify the effectiveness of corrective action plans to enhance safety outcomes.

Immediately notify certificate holders or delegates upon discovery of any regulatory non-compliance during an investigation.

Assist with and/or independently conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

Liaise with Maintenance Quality Assurance when maintenance compliance issues are detected, ensuring these are captured with appropriate Corrective Action Plans (CAP).

Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Group Audit, Investigations & Safety Data, and the Program Manager, Safety Investigations, to support the operational safety management system.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required:
-
3-6 years of airline experience.
-
Demonstrated experience in Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Inflight, and/or Airports below-the-wing.

Holds (or has held) a pilot license, flight dispatcher certificate, or Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license, or possesses commensurate aviation knowledge, skills, and experience.

Aviation/technical diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong understanding of safety management principles, including operational risk management processes, investigation practices, safety culture, human and organizational factors analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to articulate information effectively at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.

Robust relationship-building skills, with proven experience in coordinating the expectations of diverse stakeholders.
Preferred:

Experience with the Company Reporting System (CRS).

Formal accident/incident investigator training.
-
Formal root cause analysis training.
-
Strong knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) pertaining to airline operations, airworthiness, and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Additional Requirements:

Ability to respond to urgent matters outside of regular working hours and participate in on-call rotations.

Willingness and ability to travel to all WestJet destinations as required to support investigative activities.
