Overview of the Role

The First Officer for WestJet Encore plays a pivotal role in delivering safe, efficient, and memorable travel experiences for guests. Operating state-of-the-art De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprop aircraft, this position requires a highly skilled and professional aviator who upholds the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates applying for this esteemed First Officer position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• A minimum of 750 hours total flight time.
• At least 100 hours of fixed-wing pilot-in-command (PIC) time.
• A valid Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating.
• A current and valid Transport Canada Class 1 Medical Certificate.
• A valid Transport Canada Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), with an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) being highly preferred.
• Successful completion of either the IATRA or the SAMRA and SARON examinations (exams must be valid at the time of application).
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
• A current, valid passport. Non-Canadian passport holders must also possess a valid Canadian Permanent Resident Card.
• The ability to travel unrestricted to all WestJet Encore destinations (any required visas and/or travel documents are the sole responsibility of the candidate).
• Obtainment of a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) prior to the completion of Initial Ground School.
• A clear police background and criminal record check.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test (offers of employment are conditional on passing).
• Demonstrated oral and written proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be extended to candidates who demonstrate qualifications exceeding the minimum requirements, including but not limited to:

• Accumulated flight time in excess of 1000 hours.
• Significant experience in multi-engine and multi-crew flight operations.
• Previous internal experience as a WestJetter.
• Graduation from one of WestJet's esteemed partnership aviation schools.
• Flight instructors possessing a minimum Class 3 instructor rating and over 1200 hours of total flight time.

Pilot-in-Command Under Supervision (PICUS) Program

WestJet Encore proudly supports a comprehensive Pilot-in-Command Under Supervision (PICUS) program designed to assist First Officers holding a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) in accruing valuable PICUS flight time and experience. Under this program, First Officers may log up to 200 hours in a WestJet Encore aircraft, earning a maximum credit of 100 hours of PICUS towards their Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) requirements, in accordance with CAR 421.11.
