Position Overview: Simulator Second in Command

The Simulator Second in Command (SIC) is responsible for maintaining currency in assigned programs to serve as the Second-in-Command for internal and external customer pilots during recurrent, initial, or generic training courses. The SIC facilitates multi-crew aircraft training for clients who lack a flying partner, ensuring professional and competent support throughout the curriculum.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Second-in-Command for clients in multi-crew aircraft training scenarios without performing instructional duties.
  • Maintain SIC pilot qualifications in strict accordance with assigned program requirements and FlightSafety International’s Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Ensure all required certificates, ratings, and designations remain current.
  • Act as SIC in various aircraft types for Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA client training programs as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

Education

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented by two to three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

Applicants must possess a Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings, with a minimum of 450 total flight hours prior to the start of the SIC assignment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required.
  • Excellent cockpit verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with diverse customers.
  • Capacity to adapt to high-pressure environments and changing schedules.
  • Proficiency in a second language may be required at specific Learning Centers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires the ability to use manual controls, reach, stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The incumbent must possess the physical range of motion to manipulate rudder/anti-torque controls, reach simulator instrumentation, and enter/exit the simulator via a ramp. Must be capable of exiting the simulator in a severely pitched attitude. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

The incumbent must be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds frequently. The work environment involves potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, noise, vibrations, and other environmental conditions.
