Position Overview

Ornge is seeking a professional Rotor Wing First Officer to join our mission-driven aviation team. As Ontario’s air ambulance and critical care transport provider, we are dedicated to health equity, innovation, and exceptional patient care. The successful candidate will serve as the Second-in-Command (SIC), assisting the Pilot-in-Command with flight planning, aircraft preparation, and operational duties. Pilots must be capable of operating in varying conditions, maintaining flexibility, and performing under pressure within a 24/7, province-wide resource environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate aircraft in accordance with all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist the Pilot-in-Command with flight planning and aircraft preparation.
  • Maintain operational readiness, including the ability to provide flight support at bases outside the home base as demand arises.
  • Complete the company’s internal training program and successfully pass a Transport Canada Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC).
  • Work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Comply with respiratory protective equipment requirements, including being clean-shaven to ensure an effective facial seal.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial Rotary-wing (H) License.
  • Minimum of 500 rotary-wing flight hours.
  • Completed ATPL exams.
  • Valid Group 4 Instrument Rating.
  • Valid Night Rating.
  • Valid Class 1 Medical.
  • Valid Canadian Passport or authorization to work in Canada and ability to travel to the USA.
  • Immunization records with required vaccinations.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Controlled Goods Security Assessment Application for Night Vision Goggle (NVG) purposes.

Note: Candidates without a Group 4 Instrument Rating or Night Rating may be provided a conditional offer contingent upon successful completion of required standards. Ornge offers reimbursement up to $30,000 CAD for this training, distributed following one and two years of service.

Desirable Assets: AW-139 Type Rating and previous EMS experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $92,408.19 - $100,516.47 (Effective January 1, 2026).

Additional Requirements

Successful candidates must reside or relocate to close proximity to the assigned base to ensure compliance with CARs rest requirements and the ability to arrive at the base within 1.5 hours of callout.
