Position Overview

Ornge is seeking a professional Rotor Wing First Officer to join our Aviation department in Sudbury, Ontario. As Ontario’s air ambulance and critical care transport provider, we are dedicated to innovation, timeliness, and the exceptional delivery of care. The successful candidate will join a unified team committed to health equity and life-saving operations.

Responsibilities

Rotor Wing Pilots are responsible for all aspects of aircraft operation in varying conditions, requiring flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to manage pressure. As a province-wide resource, aviation personnel may be required to provide support at bases other than their home base. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Pilot-in-Command with flight planning and aircraft preparation.
  • Carrying out specific duties as directed by the Pilot-in-Command regarding aircraft operation.
  • Completing the company’s training program and successfully passing a Transport Canada Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC).
  • Adhering to all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participating in a 24/7 environment, including day, afternoon, and night shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Qualifications

  • Valid commercial Rotary-wing (H) License.
  • Minimum of 500 rotary-wing flight hours.
  • Completed ATPL exams.
  • Valid Group 4 Instrument Rating (Conditional offer available).
  • Night Rating (Conditional offer available).
  • Valid Class 1 Medical.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Controlled Goods Security Assessment Application for Night Vision Goggle purposes.
  • Valid Canadian Passport or legal authorization to work in Canada and ability to travel to the USA.
  • Current immunization records.
  • Desirable: AW-139 Type Rating and EMS experience.

Note: Candidates lacking a Group 4 Instrument Rating or Night Rating may receive a conditional offer. Upon successful completion of company training and requirements, employees are eligible for up to $30,000.00 CAD in training reimbursement, distributed after the first and second years of service.

Work Requirements

  • Must live or relocate to close proximity to the Sudbury base, allowing for compliance with CARs rest requirements and arrival within 1.5 hours of callout.
  • Must be willing to work various shifts and overnight away from home base.
  • Must be clean-shaven to ensure an effective facial seal for the use of required respiratory protective equipment.

  • Base salary range (effective Jan 1, 2026): $92,408.19 - $100,516.47.
