Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest levels of safety for all passengers and crew.

  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate global assignments, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
  • Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be available for extended periods away from the assigned base.
  • Maintain dependability and timeliness to support operational schedules and customer expectations.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
  • Operate electronic devices for task completion.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, education, aviation, social service) is required.
  • Must be able to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, with sufficient volume for emergency communication.
  • Fluent in English, including the ability to speak, read, write, and understand the language.
  • Must be able to read and speak Italian fluently.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Capability to communicate effectively during high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
  • Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and adherence to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed a credit card size and must not be offensive. Decorative covers or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas, allowing unrestricted global travel, and have at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Applied for or renewed passports do not suffice.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restrictions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (up to overhead bins or window exits), and push/pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
  • Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes on.
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and scheduled/reserve days.
  • Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in water during training.
  • Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history, ensuring no travel restrictions to any United destination.
  • Must meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometry and visual acuity standards (each eye 20/40 or better corrected for far and near vision).

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with potential to reach $67.11/hour based on seniority.
  • Additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.

  • Flight privileges for employees, their families, and friends on a standby basis.
  • During training, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodations and two meals per day.
  • A $1,000 bonus is awarded to successful training graduates.
