Job Summary

United Airlines is seeking dedicated and customer-focused individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest levels of safety for passengers and crew.

  • Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate dependability and timeliness to support operational schedules and customer expectations.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED; 2 or more years of college is preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
  • Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, with sufficient volume for emergency communication.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Must be able to read and speak Italian fluently.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
  • Professional appearance and excellent grooming standards, with willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
  • Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck. Tattoos in these areas cannot be covered by makeup or bandages. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted, provided they are not larger than a credit card (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) and are not offensive (violent, obscene, sexual, racist, or containing objectionable content or imagery including weapons).
  • Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
  • Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for task completion.
  • Must possess a valid passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application.
  • Currently in physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas, allowing unrestricted global travel.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restrictions, entering and exiting as a working crew member.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push and pull a beverage cart up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes on.
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.
  • Willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-year background check, ensuring background does not prohibit travel to any United destination.
  • Must meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements (e.g., no hearing loss greater than 40 dB in the better ear averaged at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz; each eye must be 20/40 or better corrected for both far and near vision).

Training and Onboarding

  • Six and a half weeks of Initial Training in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and service standards.
  • Assignment to one of seven hub bases (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or other flight attendant base locations.
  • During training, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodations and two meals per day.
  • Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, new employees will be welcomed as full-time United employees.
  • A $1,000 bonus is awarded to successful training graduates.

  • Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with a top of base scale at $67.11/hour.
