Job Description
United Airlines seeks dedicated individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. This role offers the unique opportunity to travel globally while delivering exceptional service. Comprehensive training is provided; no prior aviation schooling or college degree is required.
The initial training program spans 6.5 weeks at our Houston, TX facility, focusing on United's safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees will be assigned a base location from our seven hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles. Relocation funds are not provided. Training includes a weekly stipend of $140, dual occupancy hotel accommodations, and daily meals.

Compensation: Starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with potential to reach $67.11 per hour based on seniority. Additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This position is also bonus eligible (profit sharing).

Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume for emergency communication.
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Fluent in Dutch (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Capacity to communicate effectively in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to grooming standards, including uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed credit card size and must not be offensive. Decorative covers or adornments on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops).
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Current physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas is required, with unrestricted global travel eligibility.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restriction, entering and exiting as a working crew member.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (up to overhead bins or exit windows), and pushing/pulling beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment simulating required operational reach and hold capabilities.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, diligently and professionally.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, on scheduled and reserve days.
Onboarding and Training Expectations
- Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
- Successful completion of a 10-year background check, including criminal history, ensuring no restrictions on travel to any United destinations. Specific regulations for entry into countries like Canada (e.g., regarding DWI/DUI convictions) must be adhered to.
- Meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific decibel loss averages and visual acuity standards (corrected or uncorrected).
