- Serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college preferred.
- A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, audibly sufficient for emergency communication.
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Fluent in Dutch (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effective communication skills during high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuation, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and adherence to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck and cannot be covered by makeup or bandages. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed credit card size or must be covered by standard uniform pieces and must not be offensive. Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops).
- Must possess a valid passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Current physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas is required.
- Ability to travel globally without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts up to 250 lbs.
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes on.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.
- Willingness to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana is prohibited.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check, ensuring background does not prohibit travel to/from any country United serves.
- Must meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements: hearing loss on audiometry in the better ear must not exceed 40 dB averaged at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz; each eye must be 20/40 or better corrected for both far and near vision.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with potential to reach $67.11/hour based on seniority.
- Additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
- Bonus eligible position (profit sharing).

- During training (6.5 weeks in Houston, TX), a stipend of $140 per week, dual occupancy hotel accommodations, and two meals per day are provided.
- Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus.
Training and Onboarding
- Initial training spans 6.5 weeks in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and service standards.
- Base assignment will be in one of seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or other flight attendant base locations (relocation funds are not provided).
- Following successful completion of training and base orientation, employees are officially welcomed as full-time United employees.
