Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest levels of safety for all passengers and crew.

  • Maintain flexibility for global assignments, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, often on short notice and away from base for extended periods.

  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching, aviation, social service).
  • Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and audibly in emergency situations.
  • Fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding German.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
  • Professional appearance and grooming standards, willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck and cannot be covered by makeup or bandages. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed a specified size and must not be offensive.
  • No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth.
  • Proficient in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for task completion.
  • Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application.
  • Currently possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas, enabling unrestricted global travel.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restrictions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bin, window exit), and push/pull beverage carts up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes, to operate equipment, machinery, and doors.
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and reserve days, to support United's 24/7 operations.
  • Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in the water (pool) during training.
  • Willingness to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history, ensuring no travel restrictions to any United destination.
  • Must meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometry and corrected vision standards.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay of $28.88/hour, with potential to reach $67.11/hour based on seniority.
  • Additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
