Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest levels of safety for all passengers and crew.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with a "People-First" demeanor, adapting to various customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity.
  • Engage directly with customers, utilizing outstanding interpersonal skills, good judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding, compassion, and grace.
  • Influence customer loyalty through excellent service and represent United Airlines with pride and distinction.
  • Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate dependability and timeliness critical to operational success.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
  • Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, audibly in emergency situations.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand German fluently.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills in high-stress situations (e.g., aircraft evacuation, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, turbulence).
  • Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
  • Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not be larger than a credit card/employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) unless covered by standard uniform pieces and must not be offensive in nature.
  • No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth.
  • Proficient ability to operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.).
  • Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining prior to expiration at the time of application.
  • Must currently possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas, demonstrating eligibility to travel globally without restrictions.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries United Airlines serves without restrictions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (up to overhead bin or window exit), and push/pull beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
  • Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes, to operate equipment.
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United Airlines' 24/7 operation.

Onboarding and Training

  • Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training is required.
  • Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history, ensuring eligibility to travel globally without restrictions.
  • Must meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometry and visual acuity standards.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay of $28.88, with top of base scale at $67.11 per hour.
  • Seniority-based pay increases and additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
  • Bonus eligible position (profit sharing).
  • Competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, accident & disability insurance, Employee Assistance Program, commuter benefits, paid holidays, paid time off, and 401(k).
  • Flight privileges for employees, their families, and friends on a standby status.
  • During training, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodations and two meals per day.
  • A $1,000 bonus is awarded to successful training graduates.
