No prior special schooling or college degree is required; successful candidates will receive comprehensive training provided by United Airlines.
Responsibilities:
The Flight Attendant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers. Key responsibilities include:

- Working effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.

Training and Work Location:
Selected candidates will begin their career with 6.5 weeks of outstanding training in Houston, Texas, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. Accommodations, a $140/week per diem, and two meals per day (breakfast and lunch) are provided during training. Upon successful completion, trainees are welcomed as full-time employees and assigned to one of United's seven hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or another Flight Attendant base location. Relocation funds are not provided. Successful training graduates receive a $1,000 bonus. Flight Attendant trainees must successfully complete a water evacuation drill during training.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college are preferred.
- Hold at least one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard during emergencies.
- Must be fluent in spoken, written, and understood English. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable. Second languages utilized at United Airlines and considered an asset include Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations such as aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Present a professional appearance, adhere to excellent grooming standards, and comply with uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must be no larger than a credit card/employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not be offensive.
- Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for required tasks.
- Must possess a valid passport book prior to application submission. This passport book must be in physical possession, in good condition, be a U.S. passport book or a foreign passport book with applicable visas, and demonstrate eligibility to travel globally without restrictions. The passport book must have at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Having applied for or waiting for a renewed passport does not fulfill this requirement.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without any restrictions as a working crew member.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to overhead bins or window exits), and push and pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment requiring a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes on, to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Pre-employment Requirements:
Selected candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Passing DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens is mandatory; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position. A 10-year background check, including criminal history, is required. Background must not prohibit travel to or from any location United Airlines serves.
Benefits and Compensation:
United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package. The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with the top of the base scale reaching $67.11 per hour. Pay increases are seniority-based, with additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. The position is also bonus eligible (e.g., profit sharing).
